88' Vert needs work
Greetings,
I picked up a 88' vert for cheap and am wondering if you all had a few pointers to get me started.
It's really hard to start, I have to hold to accelerator to the floor. When I do get it started, it won't stay at idle and dies out if I let the RPMs dip below 2k. I drove it from where I bought it, but had a total lack of power/acceleration and blows out white smoke for awhile buy the tons. I haven't yet done a compression check, but looked at the plugs and one rotor's plugs are oil and carbon fouled, while the other rotor's plugs looked victim of slight overheating.
Your advice in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason
BTW: Does anyone have a copy of the 2nd gen 13B rebuild/overhaul video that they'll sell cheap?

If the white smoke smells sweet, then you're burning coolant and it's possible that the motor's almost toast. Could be a good candidate for a TII motor swap.

I can't be too much help but I did have a problem somewhat like that for a while with mine and my problem was that I had a coolant leak and didn't know it. By the time I found out I was overheating the engine and running on (very) low oil. It started smoking like a nuclear stackhouse and lost almost all of it's power (felt like I was going on maybe one rotor of the two....if that much) so I'm no expert but maybe this will help. All I had to do was refill the fluids and find that leak and my problem was gone.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
sounds blown to me, running on one rotor, or part of 2. Classic symptoms are hard starting, starting like a lawnmower, lack of power(floor the gas and actuate the clutch to drive)and smoking. Do a compression test to find out.
IF you do turn out to need an engine, considerletting me build one for you...I can build you a stock or streetported engine for around $1000-1300. for mor einfo check out http://hypntyz.rx7life.com/rebuildpage.htm

PULL OUT YOUR SPARK PLUGS ON FRONT ROTOR, HAVE SOMEONE TRY TO START YOUR CAR WHILE YOU PUT YOUR THUMB OVER THE SPARK PLUG HOLE AND SEE IF IT HAS ENOUGH FORCE TO BLOW YOUR THUMB OFF THE HOLE. DO THE SAME WITH THE REAR ROTOR. BUT LEAVE THE FRONT SPARK PLUGS IN WHILE YOU CHECK THE REAR ROTOR. THAT WILL TELL YOU IF YOU HAVE A BLOWN MOTOR, OR IF IT IS LOW ON COMPRESSION. EVERY SYMPTOM YOU DESCRIBED SOUNDS LIKE A DEAD MOTOR . BLOW APEX SEAL. SORRY
