88 GXL won't stay running...

Ok, I've got an 88 GXL N/A, And I've got it running, but randomly, it will either run fine for a bit, but then I will tap the gas, and it will lose the ability to idle, and unless I give it a little gas, It will die, I'm guessing it's a vaccum leak now, Where should I start to check the hoses? Just start listning for hissing sounds? The car has a lot of backfires currently.... I can hear a lot of pops in the exaust. Anyway, can anyone give me any tips for fixing this idle problem?

overall tuneup first to confirm everything is up to specs and working (spark plugs, spark plug wires, all firing, adjusted timing, adjusted TPS) and then look further for the symptoms of problems

replacing all vacuum hoses would not hurt either, its really only few of them

Hey, ok, where is the TPS? Where do I change that at? And the Belt is on the right way, but It's a V belt, and not a serpentine belt... with the little dents like that one has.

Downloading FSM (Factory Shop Manual) would be very smart idea and just follow basic tuneup procedures there.

disconnect the air sensor, my car runs alot better. I took the hose off the air sensor connected it to the actuator inlet. Guess what my actuators actually open like they're suppose to now!! nice fix for the hesitation problem(when involves the actuators). It also starts up quicker and idles better on a cold start!!
