87 RX7 Turbo 2

Man, I'm frustrated.

As a teen I wanted one of these really bad, and was finally able to get one during a "mid-life crisis". I drove it for 3 years before some lady rear-ended me and totalled the car (heart = broken).

This car was a joy to drive and a beast on the highway. It ran like new and was very fast.

Now here I sit, 3 years later, having this HUGE debate with my brother. I claim that I'd had the thing up to 148mp with RPM's to spare. He claims I'm full of crap and there is NO WAY the 87 RX7 would do over 150mph.

This is typical younger brother (me) older brother (him) syndrome. No matter what I produce as evidence, I can't possibly be right because he's owned a Z06 Vette, BMW's and a Toyota Supra (which he points out was "eons more a sports car than my RX7 Turbo") and there is no way my RX7 turbo, at 182hp, could do 150.

I'd love to find something offical, to put this thing to bed (one way or another), once and for all. Heck, maybe my speedometer was off and the car really wouldn't do near 150, but from everything I've read these things would top out over 150.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Our ongoing email battle is driving me nuts....

thanks for any help...

There aren't a lot of replies because:

1. Unless you are on the track, what you did was illegal and dangerous to the rest of the public.
2. It's impossible to verify someone's claims.
3. We've covered this many times before. Try a search on "top speed", "maximum speed" and variations on that. Be prepared to waste a lot of time because most of these threads are very useless since they just turn into arguments.

Tell ur brother to suck a rooster because the rx7 could do that and tell him to be careful with his cars at 130mph because the pistons could go flying out of the car so dnt pay attention to him i had the car and u enjoy it so take care peace

Except my thread https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ed+coefficient

Plug in the numbers and you should get close to 150mph. The speedo was probably off at those speeds, but, the numbers show you could get at least close to there.

In other words, tell your brother to f' off.

On just a short run, my poorly running stock 87' T2 hit around 145, with some to spare because I had to let off
