87 na Won't Fire

I just aquired a 1987 na that has been sitting for a while. I changed the gas, fuel filter, and pump. Fuel is getting to the plugs and the motor is rotating. Compression is within what the Haynes manuel says is spec. I have replaced both coil packs from a running car and the CAS chacks out, (again according to the Haynes).

I tried everything in the post titled "88 JSPEC Won't Fire" to no avail. The previous owner says that the car just stopped and he left it for fear of a blown motor. I bought the car cheaply, but am quickly racking up some bucks. I never had a problem like this with my first gen.

I'm lost. I know that it's more than likely something really simple, but I don't want to pay my local Mazda dealer $1000.00 to tell me that I'm a moron.

Please Help, Thanks

Did you try to pull the plugs and have someone crank it while you watch to see if it is getting spark?

On that LEAD COIL ASSY up near your battery. Take the small white plug off and with the key turned to the ON position, check for 12v on the black and yellow wire coming to the LEAD COIL ASSY. Is it there? And do what GOTTADRIVE suggests first. If the car was really running at the time of its death, then the timing must be more or less ok. So if you have fire, compression and fuel, and it does not start, it must be flooded. Another hint is to go to https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=62221 where you should look for a reply by KEITH, and read that. Thats if you don't find the 12v on the black and yellow wire at the lead coil assy.

I've got 12v at the coil, but still no spark. I haven't tried the info in the KEITH post to tie the coil to the ECU under starting conditions. It's getting quite cold in Ohio so I'll be trying this and any other suggestions on Sunday.

Thanks for the leads and please keep them coming.

I've got fire!!!!

I don't know which connector was bad, but I went around the entire engine bay disconnecting and reconnecting every wiring terminal in the bay.
