87 GXL wouln't start....

New to the rotary world, I've seen people with many flooding problems and i think I have the same. Car wouldn't start, I changed the plugs, oil, and tried again.

Still nothing, so I pinched the fuel line, wouln't start. pulled the line off and pinched it, it fired right up for 5 sec. smoked like crazy and died. then nothing again. The car also has a pretty bad smoke problem at 5k rpms or up.

My mechanic said to try the ATF trick down the intake manifold. Any suggestions on this. I just need the car to run a little bit before I yank the motor.
