Either a new ECU, aftermarket ECU, or change out the dash and use a 89+ ECU harness and engine. Also need the 89+ AFM from a TII

Or you can splice the 89 + motor into the 87 harness, which is what I did but it is very indepth and takes some time reading the FSM's for both years.

swap

I have had no difficulty whatsoever installing my 89+ motor into my 88. You will have to use your old injectors if you dont have the new ecu. The oil metering pump is electric on that motor. So it will not work. But no worries. Just use 2 cycle oil in your gas and you will be fine. I have been running this combo with various mods on my turbo II and I have had no problems.
