Turbo unit different from 88-90?

I am putting a turbo on my engine..... the engine is a 90, but I have a chance to get an 88 turbo from a tII REALLY cheap... is there a difference between 88 turbos and 89-91?
Thanks a lot

would it be feasible to bolt an 88 turbo onto the 90 engine?
Would the manifold bolt up, etc?
I am only looking for 6-7 psi because of my engine's compression

the 90 turbo will only bolt to a 89-91 turbo manifold, and an 88 turbo will only bolt to an 87-88 turbo manifold, but neither turbo mainifold will bolt your N/A engine.

the 89-91 turbo and mainifold is better.

I got the 90 Turbo system in my 87 TII. I noticed a big difference, cause it spools up a lot faster and power low-midrange is way better. To put in on a 87 engine though, you have to modify the oil drain line for some reason...that's about it, besides that it bolts right up. The other reason 89-92 turbos are better is that they run 7.5psi stock boost instead of 5.5psi.

Hold on.... are you saying that regardless of the turbo and manifold, The manifold still won't bolt to my N/A engine?? That is the first I have heard that. Why not? The dmiensions of the housings and exhaust ports are the same are they not? Can't I modify the manifold to fit if it doesn't?

Assuming I can get the manifold to bolt up, I will probably be going with a 86-88 turbo because used ones are a LOT more common than 89-90. Cheaper too.I only need 6PSI anyways....

yea if you go to the search page we have brought this topic up before. search for like "na to turbo conversion" or something like that.

it won't clear the manifold if i remember right, something has to be modified. pm Vtekeater. he's done a few and pretty smart.

they will bolt up to the engine with the intake manifold off, but they won't clear the intake manifold. good luck only running 6psi if you want an exhaust and intake....
