86 won't run?

O.K. let me give you a little background. I have a 84 but just recently got a 86 n/a
It had been sitting for about 2 years. The guy I bought it from told me that it had a blown apex seal but the body and interior was so clean I had to get it. Well I got it back to the house (tried to get it going by popping the clutch while towing it and nothing). I also did a compression check and it was reading a steady 9 front and back ( I don't think the guy I bought it from knows what he was talking about) After changing the oil, air filter I noticed that the plug wires where wrong so I put new plugs and put the wires in the right spot and it fired up........ but it will only start up rev to 3000 rpm and die. If I try and give it gas it just boggs down. I pulled the fuel line and it is pumping gas so I pulled the injectors and had them cleaned. They where flowing around 65-72 Before cleaning and now are at 80. except one that he said was bad only doing 65. I haven't put the injectors back in yet (im waiting on a gasket) I will be putting it back together tomorrow. Could it have been the injectors? On a different note i also found a 91 n/a that I am buying It also sat for 2 years and all I did was put a battery and some gas and it fired up right away and funs strong. Well sorry for the long write up but any info would be greatly appreciated!

More than likely is vac leaks/AFM not hooked up/etc. Once you get it back together just go looking for vac leaks and of course, do the normal tune-up stuff that you can and see what you can find.

try to get someone inside to keep it idling steady(hold the gas in one spot) and tap the afm, see if the car dies again. last time i had my car do that the wire that goes across the inside of the afm was bad

I'd guess faulty AFM/bad TPS/fuel issues then. It's possible your fuel pump isn't staying running also, try jumpering the connector and then start it.

what do you think about using the "bad" injector for a secondary? How bad would that affect the proformance?

I also have an 86 N/A that had been sitting for 2-3 years with the same type of problem. It will only start using the unflooding proceedures over and over then when it does start it will only stay running for a max of 5 mins before it just cuts out and dies. I have a feeling its the injectors as it floods each time it sits, and there is gas in the oil. Im gonna get those cleaned then if that doesnt work im pretty much stumped. I have Spark/compression/no vac leaks

i dont know buty i all most have to same problem.
its a 87 n/a it sat for 10 years it hase spark, timing is good, fuel, and compretion (when i use the nflooding method there lost of gas coming out of rotor #2 all most like a big injoctor but nothing realy in #1 nothing more then 2 little mists of gas) now it all most cathces some times but i just dose not untill i use eather and it fires up but jsut burns the eather, any help you be nice tahnks
ps i look at the homs on the fuel injectors there ok but when i do the reading on the wire them selfs i get like 120 omhs on #2 and only 15ish on #1 what is it supost to be at and how do i make them ok,
I would all so like to know if when you turen the key on should the fuel pump turn on and preshureise its self? because im only getting power to the fuel pump when the car turns over and its only 9 volts could this be a bad fuel relay the one under the driver dash?

From: Kissimmee Fl,
my 86 does the same thing except im pretty sure its an apex seal, the car starts and runs (as long as you keep the gas pedal pressed) and of course it runs like trash but it runs nonetheless i did a compression test and got 80 up front and 0 in the rear so im pretty sure its an apex seal. or am i wrong?
