86 Gxl's

Ok, one of the cars i'm looking into buying is an 86 gxl, 300 bucks, not bad if you ask me for a winter car...only problem with it is it wont start....its not flooded, tried the fuse trick....anyone have any possible ideas what it could be? When it was parked it ran fine...but now, a year or 2 later, it wont start....any suggestions?

Generally RWD sports cars don't make good winter cars. The neutral handling often makes it quite a handful in wet/ice/ snow conditions.

Check compression.

You must have good compression, which will not be the case on an engine parked so long. Disconnect the battery. Pull the lower (leading) plugs and squirt about a tablespoon of oil (or AT fluid) into the engine, preferably while rotating it by hand. Wait as long as possible. Pull EGI fuse, reconnect the battery, and crank for a while, to distribute/blow out excess oil. (you might want to put a rag in front of the plug holes) .
You should be getting 3 even pressure pulses from each rotor. Be a good idea to measure the compression at this point, as posted elsewhere (search button).
Replace the fuse and plugs. See if she will fire up.
Good Luck, Dave
