6 speed tranny.

After taking out the tranny in my car I was wondering wheather or not you could actually put a six speed in there?

I wonder this because I also have a 4x4 and changing out gears in those for bigger tires doesn't seem like a big deal.

So, could you modify the gear ratio so that 1st and 2nd were the get up and go gears, 3rd and 4th were stock
and 5th and 6th were the: "Oh my god, I'm going to ******* die!", gears

Hopefully someone won't way this costs about half a million.

Only 6speed I've ever head of for a FC is a "dogmission"(I think) tranny. Very $$$$$. Like twice what your car is worth.

dogmission sounds like an interesting position......

any way if you are going to spend that much $$ on a tranny I would get a QUAIFE sequential its a 6-speed dog engagement gearbox with single OD. and same price as hks $6,875.00

It can be done, but not to the stock tranny.

It will have to be entirely custom unless you buy a prefabbed unit like the HKS, and trust me, its not worth it. An extra 5th and 6th gear does jack all unless you have the power to use the extra overdrive (400 hp or more), except increase your coolness factor.

Maybe - in a few years - a Renesis swap will be practical?
Maybe with the stock tach, so you can watch it go off the scale!

people have mentioned this but the 6 speed out of the miata could be a possibilty...i know it's not a direct swap but u know the diff's should be swap-able...might just need a custom adapter fabb'd

Now that's an Idea.

I see no reason why its not possible. Mabey get a shop to modify a bell housing adaptor and ze drive shaft?

Though scathcart did make a good point about the power requirements.

The 6 speed outa the 8 will work or at least fits the bolt pattern.. You will just have to find it and it will not hold as much power. IDK...

Miata 6-Speed would need to be GREATLY built. They explode in stock 99' Miata's... what do you think they'd do in an RX7???... at 9k RPM???
