6 puck clutch tough on trannys?

I just recently got a T2. The previous owner was rather unknowledgable about the condition of his car. He had allowed his friend at an import tuner shop pick and choose the mods for him.

So surprise to everyone especially me, since I'm rather new to cars myself. I find out my T2 has a 6 puck clutch! I've done some checking and I know this clutch is tough to drive on the street, particularly heavy stop and go traffic. The question I want to know is, I'm told due to the extreme grip of these clutches. They tend to put a large amount of stress on the transmission causing them to requiring replacing much more often than a more street usable clutch.

A related question on that matter, would a different pressure plate help to alleviate the stress placed on the transmission by the clutch?

I have a six puck clutch in my car, and I dont think that it should put too much stress on the tranny. If you are worried about the stress on the diff then get a competion front diff mount for your tranny and that should keep you from breaking the stock one.

I believe that they are a bit more rough on transmission than the stock one. Simply for the fact that they "shock" the transmission with sudden engagement. I have had a 6-puck in there for going on a year now. My transmission is making some slight grinding sounds but I attribute that to the hell I put it through and 150K miles being on the car. Probably stick some Redline in it and it will be good as new for a while

It is a forum bug. Log out and then log back in and everything should be fine.

Thats the main problem. 6 puck sprung hub imho, are'nt that bad to drive. I've driven everthing from stock, to a 3 puck solid hub clutch, with a dual diaphram. Now that thing was a little touchy. If its a sprung hub, you'll be fine. CJ
