NH 6-port turbo, slight metal in oil. why?

Like the title says my oil is looking like it has a little bit of metal in it, its slightly got a grey color. This is after about 500 miles, normally my oil doesnt even get dark or slightly metallic by a 3000 mile oil change. The car runs great, conservative tuning..
This is after installing my 6 port turbo setup and switching from 10w-40 mobil1 to 20w-50 gulf oil.
Where can this metal be coming from? The only thing i can think of was maybe the bearing dropped during a front covet swap? But that was done several oil changes ago.
Thanks for any help.

maybe there was just some goo in the turbo and the oil lines. Do an oil change and see what happens.

If the bearing dropped under the front cover, your engine would not be running.

an Oil change is really not a TOTAL oil change UNLESS you drain the oil cooler too,as the cooler will hold residual oil in it and it will not be drained with a regular "pop the plug" oil change.
Every oil "change" you leave about 2 quarts of old oil in and add then when you add the new stuff, it mixes.

an oil change is definitely going to happen immediately. im thinking maybe i missed a couple bits of aluminum shavings from tapping my oil return line into the front cover.
where else can metal particles come from in a rotary?

Check with a magnet. If it's not sticking, it's most likely just the shavings sloshing around in the pan.

if the engine was rebuilt prior to the oil change then i wouldn't worry about it unless it continues on after the second to third oil changes. a fresh engine is going to shed some debris which is why the first oil change should be done at 500.

It's not a rebuild. This has appeared since I put the turbo kit on my nonturbo block. Turbo is tight, engine runs great, sounds healthy, doesn't smoke..

Like you said , probably from when you tapped the fittings you could have got some shavings inside.

Other than that I'd suspect bearing failure somewhere.

i remember that discussion from a ways back, and i also recall saying it is was near impossible to do without getting brass shavings directly on the front stat gear bearing.

if you have no plans on disassembling an engine for the conversion just do an oil filter sandwich plate..

I suppose i should have considered my drilling the front cover, I kind of cleared it from my mind as I took my time thoroughly flushing the oilpan with brakeclean. Hopefully it will clear up with this oil change.
