5th gear sadness... =(
ive searched around the forums and with no luck found no solution to my problem.... and also found im not the only one with this problem....
so my shifter was very loose, 2nd gear grind, and all that good stuff (but still had all my gears).... so i thought that i might have to change the bushings.... so i did.... shifter works fine..... now i cant get into 5th gear.... thought it might be the bushings being to big or something.... so i took the top out, then bottom, then both... and still cant get into gear.... tried double clutching and even floating gears... still nothing.... i also had the 5th gear whirring noise like everyone else... but my gears were still strong (actually 5th never was strong if you know what i mean haha).... anybody have a clue what might be wrong and what i could do to fix?

I had some trouble with shifting at one point also. It turned out to be my slave cilinder so i replaced it and added some fluid but it would still be a pain the shift and i had to bleed the clutch but one day it just started working again still really loose but im broke so it wil have to do.

Did you try Paul Spickard's suggestion? Sounds like you should be taking any help you receive pretty seriously since it'd be much easier (altho not that difficult) than a tranny pull/swap.

What Hailers is saying is that the old one is chewed up and fell into the trans. Did the shift kit you bought come with both bushings? Also what you may do is change the trans fluid and add some kind of additive.

....... go to MAZDATRIX online and look at their FAQ. In their FAQ there is one on the shifter bushings/shims and they suggest what parts are needed.
