5th and 6th port Actuators

When I bought the car, it was originally used for road racing. The previous owner said that the previous owner to him took out the 5th a 6th port actuators. Would this cause little to no low end torque? I have literally one take off speed, it doesn't launch, and when I cruise at 80 on the high way I tend to bog down and have to down shift. Does this sound like its because of the actuators? If so how do I/what do I need to put them back in?
Thanks all

Yes, with the ports open all the time, you'll have no low end.

I dug through all the parts it came with and I found the sleeves for the ports but not the actual actuators themselves. Any idea where I can buy them? Maybe order them for Mazda? A quick google search didn't reveal any.

Check and make sure the VDI is working also.

Doubt mazda has them.

I bet a forum member can sell you some though.

PM sent p0tat0s. Is VDI S5 specific? If not how do I check that? Thanks a lot for all the info.

I don't know S5 engines too well, but I couldn't tell the difference on my S3 engine after removing them. Low end is just fine. You may have other issues.

I don't think so, because after 3800 rpms it has loads of torque (for an na lol) and that is when the actuators are supposed to open.

From my experience properly working six ports are waaaaay better than wide open ports. An S3's horsepower peak isn't as far from the torque peak as an S5. Plus the FB doesn't weigh as much, and probably has different gear ratios IIRC. Good luck getting them to work- The bushings on the port actuators like to corrode to the shafts; These engines were ment to be redlined regularly.

Thinking of buying Pineapple racing 6th port sleeves. Still can't seem to find any actuators.

Pretty sure they open at 5500rpm, the 2nd injectors start at 3800.

S4's use exhaust pressure to open the 5/6 ports. So the actual rpm depends on a lot of other factors. I think my stock exhaust operates them about 3500 rpm.

Factory spec is 3800rpm for 6 ports, though as RXSpeed16 pointed out its backpressure related, and they will actuate with about 3-5psi pressure, low enough to blow on the actuator tube and watch the pot move.

Post an add in the for sale / wanted section, you'll get some rather quick. make sure they work tho! i've seen some seized up or gunked up beyond use.

Definitely get either the Pineapple inserts or the atkins sleeves.

lol +1 on that.

I've never heard horror stories, but pressure fit chunk of aluminum plus loctite is not something I would want millimeters away from a spinning rotor.

The Pineapple inserts CANNOT fall out into the port. They are peened into position so they can't slide back out the sleeve. Although with mine, I had to file them down some and still almost force them to get them into position; it was a very snug fit.

Okay, I have actuators sleeves and both gaskets. Now the question is how do I put them back in? And what air lines do I need to hook up? Anyone have a write up? And yes I have searched.
