If you are doing any sort of racing/time trials that requires a harness, you will be required to run a cage as well. Snowball is right, you will do more harm than good with an improperly mounted harness than if you just use your stock seatbelts. If you are racing, make sure that everything you do to the car complies with your CCR/GCR/comp rules. Most sanctioning bodies require that harnesses be changed every 2 years.

it is safer if you get a cage with the harness.... there are threads on here that already discuss the dangers of harnesses without cages etc...

It's easy to remove the belts. Just take off the plastic covering, the bolt is some weird size...5/8ths?? I don't remember exactly. They should come out pretty easily, same size bolt for both locations. I did this on my 89, it might be slightly different on your car, but the bolt size will be American.

There are no Imperial/SAE bolts on a FC... metric 14mm or 15mm or 17mm

Every seatbelt bolt in the US is 7/16ths. I double checked, the one on the FC is fine thread.

Another thing to consider is seats. It's not safe to run harnesses with the stock seats as there's no place for the harnesses to pass through, meaning they'll be on the outside of the seat and will be able to slip off during a collision. Running with just a lap belt is stupid and illegal (AFIK it's illegal to tamper with the safety devices).

I've attached a picture that shows what's safe and what's not when it comes to seats to be used with harnesses.

mount them properly, at least get a bar for the B pillars and a proper seat to accept the harnesses. They say never have the belts bolted ot the frame (can kill you) and never have the belts just wrap around the seats (I forgot why but it's bed too) I read a 3 page article about it in PAS mag.

EDIT: did not see the post before me but you see that you can't cut corners with safety, if you're just getting them to look coo lthen you are being ricey and they won't help.

You can insall a roll bar, or harness bar and use your harnesses without the hassle of a full cage or the worry of spinal compression.

I was involved in a 120mph wreck into a guardrail with a racing seat, 5 point harness, and harness bar. I wlked away without a scratch, bruise, or any soreness at all.

The equipment works. Use it. Use it correctly.

Best of luck.

It can pull out of the seat and send you into the steering wheel. Your head will never forgive you.
