5 lug conversion

For you guys who have done a 5 lug conversion, is it really worth it?

The reason why I am asking….I currently have a 4 lug. If I do an upgrade, parts alone with cost me in appx $200-$300. But a new set of 4 lug 15x7 is $400 plus tires.

Thanks in advance

If the upgrade is not going to be of any use to you, why spend the money. Just buy a nice set of wheels/tires and enjoy them.

I did it on my 86 that I had. I had a bad diff and a bad wheel bearing. Since the diff needed replaced, I thought I might as well upgrade to and LSD and 4 piston brakes up front with 5 lug all around. You will also have a much better wheel selection with the 5 lug versus the 4 lug.

The braking was a major difference as was having LSD instead of the one wheel spin.

Have you already gotten a source for the parts?

Did this to my car about 4 or 5 months ago and am pretty satisfied with the results.

unfortunatly, I already bought wheels. if I had know this was so easy before that, I would have done it.

Don't make my mistake people, and if you want to do it, then do it.

try searching for a write up. there's one from a while ago.
the conversion is definetly worth it. you get much better brakes, plus much better upgradability, and it just feels good knowing you have 4 piston calipers.

We're in the process of doing it to "k86rx7" right now. This will give him the limited slip diff. and new bearings. We got the rear end from a parts car, so it's not like we're getting ripped off. I would suggest getting one from a parts car. Saves money.

how hard is it. Are/ could you make a guide or list of everything you did and any problems you had. Just want to get as much info as possible before I attempt it.

Thanks

Ya, I'll let you know once we finish. I'll PM you, or email you. I do know you might need an air compressor to get off sertain bolts from the suspension.

Here's a good write up. You can find the article on his site. I'll try to write one up too with pics since I'll be doing my own conversion myself with my spare parts car.
