4th and 5th slipping

So most of my driving I have done in my 7 has been in town and I usually don't leave third gear. Today I took it down the highway to open it up a little and noticed some slipping. It only does it 4th and 5th gears that I have noticed. I would be cruising at around 3500 rpm and when I would hit the gas and the turbo would kick in it would slip up to around 4000 for a sec. and then drop back down. I'm also getting a klink klink sound in every gear when I step on the gas. I don't have a shift boot so I can here all those sounds loud and clear. I know that the clutch compenants are all in pretty new condition. It seems like the clutch slipping, but it doesn't slip when I am pounding through the gears. One other thing is it doesn't shift down well, the rpm's have to be just right, and the car has to be stopped to get back into 1st. The clutch catches towards the middle of the throw so i believe it is fully disengaging. Does it sound like I need a new tranny?tranny rebuild? Also the fly wheel is new. it is a fidanza aluminum flywheel. And it doesn't make any noises when it is slipping, like grinding gears or anything.

Well for one the inner shift boot (the one that bolts the shifter down) has a gasket on the other side to help hold tranny fluid in. Two What kind of clutch? I dont think there really is a way for the tranny to slip so it is probly the clutch pressure plate. The ebay clutch kits have very weak pressure plates. My old one wouldnt grab till about 3/4 of the way out but my exedy grabs instantly from the floor.

The inner boot is on there. The clutch came on the engine from japan when I bought it, so I don't know what brand, but I had looked at it closely seemed almost new. none of the prts looked like thay had any wear on them. Could be a cheap clutch, but I would think it would slip in the lower gears when I am really laying in to it rather than trying to accel from cruising speed in 4th and 5th.

4th and 5th gear put more load on the engine, making the clutch/PP the weak point, causing it to slip more easily. Sounds to me like you may be leaking tranny fluid through your input shaft seal and onto your clutch/PP since you are hearing noises out of your tranny. Either that, or your mounts are bad and your clutch is just slipping from being worn.

My tranny mount is bad, I don't think there is any rubber on it. also the car use to be an automatic and I had to put new mounting plates to bolt up the five speed. The new plates aren't welded in I have them bolted in and could be causing the klink sound.

Did you put a pilot bearing in the eccentric shaft, when converting over to Manual from Automatic. That could be why you have to Sort of Rev match the engine/trans.(just a Guess.).and also ya,the Mount not being welded would cause a slight shift when Moving up and down in acceleration. Not the best to have bolts holding the Trans On as a mount,But You shouls be able to tackle that with some wlds.Good luck(my .02).

I swapped the tranny with the turbo engine it use to be a N/A. And yes I did put a new pilot bearing and seal in when I changed the flywheel out. The rear main seal and the output seal on the tranny were also replaced. I have about eight bolts on each plate so I don't think it will go anywhere, but it could be making noise. When I let my foot off the gas, the sound that comes from the tranny doesn't sound good either.

clutch. No doubt.

If you put it in 5th gear and stomp on it the engine shouldnt increase RPMs without increasing speed. If it does 9 times out of 10 the clutch is going. Check your lines to make sure they arent leaking. If they arent I would put money on the clutch.
