Suburu STi over an EVO, until I see a side-by-side comparison saying the EVO is superior to the STi (I have a problem with Mitsubishi Motor Co.)

The RX-8 is cool and all, but if I get another Rotary, it will be boosted. Something the RX-8 is not. Plus I'd be too tempted to throw the renesis into my FC.

Current list: STi, RT/10, C5, Skyline, Boxter, Stock FD, 20B FD, MKIV, and the list goes on. Lots of choices out there you know. But there's a few rules across the board.

FR or 4WD, 200+ HP, and not a Honda.

(Sure, S2000 are fast, but you have to push them like HELL to get them that way)

As of now, the STi is #1 (4WD, Turbo, 6-Speed, @>5K under budget.

a Used NSX would be killer.
Think ~!! NSX!! its a supercar for heavens sake!!
Yes, you said no Hondas but...NSX has gotta be a exception "midengine 10 000rpm supercar....supercar..supercar....NSX...buy..now.. ." lol

I'm pretty sure the Evo is more than 40k? *shrugs*

The thing about getting a GTR is what happens when it comes to maintaining it? unless you read hours and hours of books on the GTR, you'd have to send it out to Motorex everytime or something like that. It's not like every Nissan dealer can service a GTR...right? lol.

Of course getting a R32 GTR would be so killer..black GTR with Gold Rays or Nismo wheels...

I guess an euro car is out of question since you wanna stay import. thats okie. but M3's are dreams of cars to drive and ride in. And there are good maintenence manuals for them so you can bascially do everything yourself. Might wanna look into them.

anyway good luck.

Yo,

Used NSX fo' sho'. You can pick 'em up for like 30K. Drop another 10K into Comptech goodies and you're set.

Bulletproof reliability AND exotic. Oh, and it's NA.

*grin*

Thumbs up Since you're not looking to buy until mid to late next year....

Cut and Past from an Australian Car magazine (Note the comment about a revived RX7 coming as well as a Miata with the new Renesis Wankle in it:

The RX-8 set to be launched in Australia in late May next year, is already geared up for an open-top version. And in another bombshell, Mazda is said to be secretly developing ways to expand the capacity of its rotary engine.

Tricking up the rotary is a major breakthrough as the engine has essentially remained the same with, and without, turbo power since its inception on the Cosmo Sport in 1967.

Mazda powertrain managers have ruled out the chance of turbocharging the RX-8 RENESIS rotary engine but admit they are looking at ways of increasing capacity of the 1300cc two-rotor engine, bringing more naturally aspirated power to the lightweight unit.

There is also a chance that the new MX-5 could have its piston engine replaced with the RENESIS, making Mazda's sports car family an all-rotary affair.

Mazda have not officially declared that the RX-7 program is to go ahead, however, insiders with the Hiroshima manufacturer claim the car is well advanced and could be unveiled publicly as early as the Detroit Motor Show in January.

i would get a WRx STi. a 350z or an nsx thats in good shape. but id go for the WRX since its a 4-door and it a damn good car in bad weather and would be a better daily driver compared to the other 2.

I forgot about the 350Z (I still like the Fairlady better, but both are cool depending on color...read: pearl white is NOT your friend), I wouldn't go for the Lexus IS300. I drove it for a while and yea it's nice and all (too big for me), but it's beyond quiet regardless of how high you rev it. Just a little TOO polished for me. I also forgot about a used Viper (dear God the thought!), but I'd say for something sick get the NSX (hell you can pretend you bought it back in the day and say you spent 85k on it! ). I like the WRX STi, but are you talking about the new one or old one (older is better to me)? Also what MKIV are you talking about???

importfanatic?

Hey importfanatic where do you get off saying I'm not a real mechanic and that you wouldn't take your car to the shop I work at? You don't know me. I said i don't touch them because the shop I work at is called Japan Auto, hence we specialize in japanese cars. And generally japanese cars (in my experience) are easy to work on, check the shop manual on how many hours most jobs take on japanese cars and they are usually less then most other cars.

Another thing, since your such an expert on the wrx, whens the last time you drove one. (ps2 gran turismo doesn't count) Or did you just check out the specs in your last issue of super street.

I get so sick of people like you ripping on people like me who were just trying to give an honest opinion to help some one else out. All I was doing was trying to tell people about my experience with subarus and you come in saying I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Whens the last time you worked on one!

Come to think about it I haven't seen you post anything beificial to this thread! Get a life, pick on somebody else.

Ed

A covette is a few grand over $40k, but its a good choice.

The M5 is nice too, but again, closer to $45k.

350z is nice, but its a very subjective choice, some like, some dont at all.

I've been mulling over the STi... it's such a great choice for me.

NSX's are cool and all, but... even in my small town of Springfield MO, there are easily a dozen driving around. The RX-8, although it is a rotary, doesn't compare to the STi. 280HP, AWD, 6-Speed, 4-Door. I could haul friends, or just haul ***. Plus, I don't really like the idea of getting the 1st year of any car (STi being a package, not a whole new car)

So, as it stands, until convinced otherwise. 03' WRX STi, add a different hood (I HATE that damned scoop, it's TOO BIG!!!) and a FMIC. Use whatever $$ left over for performance goodies.

Oh! And about the Skyline. After thinking about it... A) It's RHD... which may be great for people in the show curcuit... but it's terrible for me at McD's or the bank. B) It's a Skyline... do you know how much parts (performance or otherwise) would be to import vs. a WRX? Plus, in order for it to be able to be liscensed here, it would put me over-budget.
