40K for a new car

Ok, without disclosing any details; I'm going to get around $40,000 in 9 months for a new car. I'm wondering what you guys would get.

I know this belongs in the lounge, or some other forum, but I value 2nd gen owners opinions more than any others (seeing as I am one of you)

BTW, the doesn't mean I'm getting rid of my FC (yeah f*@king right) just that I get another car, so I can work on my FC MORE (like that's possible)

I wanna stay import, and the car has to be fairly new. How much is a 20B FD?

Umm, what kind of car do you want? Another sports car? A daily driver? If I had 40k to blow on a car, I'd put a down payment on a house... Lol, but if I HAD to spend it on a car, I'd get a used beamer, all the way. M3s kick major ***.

From what I've read on the forum the 20b fd is around 35-40k total. Are you wanting this car to be a daily driver?

Personally I'd get a dead FD for less than 10k dump 10k into it save the rest and pretend i'm BATMAN.

Well, without saying much, this will be a "gift"

My family is about to enter a lawsuit, and bring in quite a pretty penny. As a result, not only do I get a new car, and possibly a small house, but my parents get their house paid off, and new cars. As does my sister.

I'm wanting a daily driver sportscar. I love the rotary, so I'd really like to keep with it. I plan to keep my FC as my first REAL sportscar (I don't want regrets about getting rid of my 1st car, like most older guys have)

Nothing will be final until almost June of next year, so I AM getting ahead of myself. But, I was just seeing what other RX-7 owners would do, when put in my shoes. The budget for this car is MORE than 40K... but I'm not terribly greedy, so I'll keep it in that neighborhood.

E-Mailed Tito @ Alamo Rotary, talking about his 20BFD, I'm trying to get an opinion on that route. Anyway; suggestions please.

I'd definitely get another type of vehicle besides a 2 seater sports car. I'd personally go for an SUV probably (dodges bullets). I'd prolly go for an RX300. Its nice to have some room.

Heck i would get a Subaru WRX or however you spell it. I mean think about it AWD, Turbo, 5-Speed. How can you beat that. Plus thats only like 20 grand so you still have half to put into you FC and make it one bad car. But thats just what i would do.

As long as you promise to love and cherish the FC still, I would recommend you buy a Supra.

I'm not really looking for a really exotic car guys. I don't want to me one of those kids who everyone hates because mommy and daddy bought them a Porsche that he doesn't appreciate.

And 40K is only the cap. I don't HAVE to spend it all. The ones that are sticking out in my head are WRX, and still the 20BFD. I'm kindof thinking that an FD with a stock 20B in it (for 40K) isn't even comparable to an FD with a blown engine for 10K, and 30K more to put into it. I'm not hesitant to spin a wrench.

I don't want a luxury car, or an SUV. I want something already quick, that I can possibly build upon in the future. FD, WRX, Supra, all good. Who knows, if the EVO7 is out by then, maybe I'll get that. Keep in mind, I'm 18 (yeah, I know.. kindof makes some of you sick) I have no use for a huge people hauler quite yet, but don't mind a 4-door. No front wheel drive cars either... those are for pussies

I cannot believe the silly answers given so far.....

You get the $ next June. About next August, the RX8 becomes available.

You'll be one of the first on your block with one, and you'll have bragging rights at owning the newest and most improved Wankle, and be the envy of the Forum.

There, decision made.

Supra, Subaru....

Sheesh!!!!

Bad news: $35K 20B conversion + 8-12K for the FD - missed it by that much.

Good news: The RXX-7 is for sale, and it's in your price range!

I think that most of the new cars on the market suck. Unless you can wait for the RX-8, the next best thing is a Camaro SLP. Anyway, just from my experience, it's better not to get another 2-seater.

I have found that a pickup truck comes in very handy when I need to get RX-7 parts from the salvage yard, pull an RX-7 to the shop, support an RX-7 at the track, camping out in the infield for races, etc. I don't really like trucks, either, but it sure helps out a lot. Also, it's good for moving so you don't have to bum your friends' truck, LOL.

Current Car List

1989 Mazda RX-7 GTU
1990 Dodge Shadow
1982 GMC Sierra Classic (w/ .30+ 400SBC)
1980 Nissan 280ZX (Soon to be Auto-X project car)

Not to mention, my parents have a 1994 Full-size, long-bed, quad-cab diesel; and a Dodge Custom Van.

I'm really not needing any spacific TYPE of car, I just want a nice, daily driver, with some go. I think I'll probably settle on a WRX. Something about AWD Turbo is just... so... special.

And Evil Avaitor, www.alamorotary.com 20BFD for $39,950... I could probably low-ball it, and still get it tagged, inspected, and to me for just under $40K

If I had 40k in cash (in other words didn't have to make payments on it) I would buy a Porche tommorow.

But you can't go wrong with a BMW or Mercades though.

I hear you can make those Subaru's quite fast with just a little cash.

For the STI check out I-Club.com rumors sections.

This is from one post that a person asked about the STI.

Our Subaru Rep. was just in and I inquired about the WRX STi for you. They are orderable now. They won't be available until probably June or July of 2003. They will be very limited and of coarse it will be first come first served. What they are thinking now is the HP will be somewhere around 275, They will only be available in a 6 spd., they will have 17" wheels and will maybe only be available in blue. Price will be in the low 30's, somewhere around 32 to 33.
Let me know if you are a player. Should be a fun car!! The dealers in the Cities already have some deposits.
