If I got something imported, it would be a Sileighty, or a Skyline (the FR version)

Hmmm, hopefully I'll get the cash before the STI hits the showroom. MMMMmmmm 4WD, just under 300HP, and Black... ohhh yeah.

I think my decision has been made for me... unless something better comes along.

It's gotta be a MKIV Twin Turbo Supra. That is what I would get. I can't see how anyone in there right mind wouldn't want one of those. It has it all and more. So much HP potential, beautiful car, rare (4000, TT 6spds sold in the US), enormous aftermarket support.

Heres my list...
New Mazda RX-8 when available
New Acura RSX Type S
2000-2002 Toyota Celica GTS, I don't really approve of the new vent on the front of the 2003
New Nissan 350z
New Subaru WRX STi when available
Used BMW M3, i believe a new one is more than 40k
1991-1998 Nissan 240sx, drop in an SR20DET motor, and put a slightly bigger turbo on it.
Used Toyota Supra Twin Turbo
Used Honda S2000
New Honda Accord VTEC V6 6 speed. my god, the 5 speed hauls enough ***, never mind the 6
1990 Toyota Celica AWD Turbo
Old Porsche 930 or 964 Turbo, back when the turbos were still RWD.

I know theres tons more i would buy for 40k, i didn't even mention most of the old cars that i would buy and then pour massive amounts of money in to.

the answer is so obvious! RX-8!

or if you think one rotary in the stable is enough, than pick up a WRX and use the rest of the cash to play with your 7. wow man, lucky LUCKY you! hehe I wish I had these things to worry about

You have a rotary.. but spending all your money into one cookie isn't always the smartest thing to do.. but definatly the funest.. checking ebay prices.. you could get an m3.. you get the style points and the girlies think you're a high roller.. which in turn costs you more on dates . Lancer Evo is going to put you to the top of your budget from what I've seen for estimated prices. Get a WRX .. the STi will be here soon.. This is your chance to get a 'practical car'. A car you won't care to put mad miles on.. a car that will roll down the interstate at 90 with the cruise on and not flinch at a glitch in the road.

my vote.. used bimmer m3 it's practical... nice lines.. and you'll have the bling bling to get the sorority girls

Have you driven a WRX?

My uncle has one and I drove it. I was not impressed at all. It handled pretty well, but the motor leaves a bit to be desired. It seems slugish to me, slow revving.

Also I'm a mechanic at Japan American Auto in Sac and we see a lot of subarus in there with major problems. I've done an engine swap and changed lifters ( big hydraulic ones like american cars) many times. They make noise and can't be ajusted like other lifters.

If you do get one be very carefull with over heating the whole motor is aluminum. I've seen them be no good from just a little overheating. But I'm sure you're more careful than the dumb people that come in my shop.

just some things to consider,
Ed

I would also steer away from the BMW's unless your loaded. No one but german car specialits or dealers touch those things I know I don't.

Plus parts are twice the price of Japanese cars. Most parts are dealer only as well, you can't go buy parts from a parts store for that kind of car.

Not to mention Japanese cars are the eaiest cars to work on besides stupid mitsubishi cars.

my friend got brand new STI WRX and u should have seen his face when he lost against stock 87TII with just haltech and volvo FMIC....

i like EVO 7 or EVO 8 more actually, for that kind of money i would consider RX-8 of course if it has to be new car, warrantied etc.....

and of course, there is one 1995 Skyline GT-R for around $23 000 i would get probably ;o)

Umm, My friend has a BMW 325iS and we have done all the work on it ourselves using the factory manual, and we ave had no problems getting the parts we needed from our local parts store, all except the new head, that was a custom order. However the fact remains, if 2 18 year olds can read a book and fix a car you won't touch, then i'll be sure not to ever use your shop if i have a serious problem. I'm sorry, but thats not a morral for a mechanic to go by, my mechanic knows alot, and if he doesn't know how to do something, he will learn it and still take the job and do a better job than anyone else in town. Thats how a real mechanic works, if your a mechanic its because you love to work on cars, you shouldn't be afraid of them if they seem a little more complicated.

Then we have the guy that says the Subaru is slow....I won't even bother with that one, i'd just like to know what its slow in comparison to.

higgi, your friend really sucks as a driver if he lost to a stock TII, those 2 cars are no contest in the Subaru's favor, not to mension the fact that to my knowledge its only available in Japan currently.

The choices would defiantly be M3 or STI.... from the pictures i've seen they changed the front end again which is a definant plus... of course there could be a car your in love with from your childhood you'd like to customize.. with 40K i'd be modding out a '73 Trans Am... mmmmm Torque.... just a nice streetable 10sec car.. you know nothing too fancy

TII with open exhaust (no cats at all) and Haltech E6K is not considered to be stock i think ;o)

I meant that $46k STI was defeated by $3k TII...

It's really hard to say, I would say (no I'm not gonna say FD because that obvious...but SPIRIT R conversion...okay I won't say it again ) if you want a Skyline why not hit up MOTOREX? It's definately in the price range, if not then if you're into waiting get an RX8, other choices...

NSX (obviously used...but I love the older ones anyway)
300ZX/Fairlady
Silvia/240SX
Supra

...you know...
I could probably pick up a used, older viper for 40K...

Right now, it's STi, Supra, 20B FD (still haven't ruled it out), Viper , and MAYBE an older Skyline. I'll have to check out Motorex.

i would go with the RX-8. You get a brand new rotary powered car, and 4 seats. It'll be one of the sickest cars out thier.
