Something is a-miss about a 4.33 R&P available for the FC in 88...

That wasn't a mechanical posie rear....correct? 1988 was the first year for viscous fluid differentials. When I was looking for a TII rear for my car.....I went with the 1987 because it was still a mechanical posie unit....and I think it is a 4.33 or 4.30 gear also. Not sure though...my car was an automatic N/A now its a N/A with a 1987 TII rear and 1990 TII manual transmission.....I am interested in knowing the year change on the rears though. Thank You.

If the rear was from an automatic, its a 3.90. 1989 was when they started using viscous LSDs in FCs. 86-88 used clutch-type LSDs. The only FCs in North America that came with a 4.3 rear end were 89-90 GTUs models. Also, "Posie" (positraction), is chevrolets term for a LSD. I believe ford uses "trac-lock". In mazda its just a limited slip..(LSD)
Also, no sure if you know, but not all FCs had a LSD. here is a list of those that do..
Series 4 cars (86-88) that had LSD From the factory:
GXL
T2
88 GTU
Series 5 cars with LSD from the factory:
89-90 GTUs
T2
a few 91 coupes had it as an option, but it is very rare.

Sorry about the "mis use" of words.....but posie is short for positve traction....which of course is Limited Slip....some people are pretty **** in this forum....
I also know that not all came with "LSD"....Can't we all just get along?

Aftermarket LSDs are pretty pricey. Usually ranging from ~$800-1000+. Id just get a used low milage stock differential. I got my GTUs LSD Diff for $250. I think I got a great deal..
buying a used lsd is usually a waste of money. I have 2 NA clutch ones, 2 clutch TIIs, 1 viscous, and a torsen that is replacing one of the clutch ones.
All 4 clutch diffs are worn out. That is 4/4. Pretty bad odds on getting a working one. A few grab in one direction well but spin free in the other.
THe viscous stinks. I guess its better than nothing.
SOrry to bring you down. The only real options are a new KAAZ or cusco or a torsen.
Well I guess the viscous is ok for street and autoX. Not what I want for driftsession though.
