Smile 3.90 vs 4.33 vs 4.77

I currently have 3.90 gears in my 5spd FD. I have all the bolt-ons and installing BNR Stage 3 turbos. Keep in mind that my goal is to race street light to street light. Does anyone know if I should upgrade to 4.33 gears or will it not make that much of a diffence? Also if I go with the new gears, is it important to get a aftermarket LSD? Someone told me that 4.33 gears will give me quicker excelleration and someone else said that new gears would give me less spooling time and that I would be shifting though gears to quickly. And if thats not the case then what about 4.77 gears?
Thanks,
Erik

In that case, disable your airbag, unclick your seatbelt, and aim for telephone poles. GFY.

as long as your spinning I would keep the factory LSD but when or if you hook your going to destroy the factory one. as for the gears I have the a set of 4.33 gears waiting for me to install them the guy I bought them from said he felt a difference with them in.

To some extent I have to agree...You(the poster) are asking us how to be a quicker stop light racer. That makes YOU the reason I hate people that don't drive responsibly and give us ALL a bad reputation. So that when we go drive WE get hassled cause some jackass was racing stop light to stop light.!!!

That said and ranting aside the higher gears( 4.33, 4.77) will make you accelerate quicker.( who put the 3.90 in the rear end of the 5 speed? I thought the 5 speeds were all 4.10 and the auto's were 3.90.)Also shift more often and run hotter at highway speeds.( do to increased engine RPM,...depending on the speeds you are running.) You will also lose top end speed. Your stock LSD is on a limited life span anyways so I say wait till it leaves you stranded at the stop light and can't get away before the cops show up.

Unless your FD has been converted from an Automatic to Manual, you should have 4.10 ring & pinion gears.

So you mean to tell me that you never get on it when a car rolls up to you reving there engine at a stop light or crusin down the street you never ever race anyone , if so that is giving RX7's a bad rep. How can you own a RX7 and not race.

But thanks for the info on gears and LSD.

Actually your are correct. I have never street raced ANYONE! Alot of cars have pulled up next to me and revved, When i rev back they smile and say they were just joking. Soooo I gues that means my 7 already has a badass reputation around this town. And yes I get on the car plenty, but I do it outside of town and where there are no other cars or houses. That's just me though. Maybe I'm to old for this **** anymore. But i am a firm believer in getting your ****** *** to a track if you want to race,... be it Drag, Road race, or Auto-X, or Drifting or whatever the hell you want to do. Sorry my dislike for streetracers hurts your feelings And i do race my seven... I just do it legally on a track and as safely as possible for everyone involved. Maybe when you get older you'll understand.

I agree I take my fd to the track alot. And I'm not saying that I race everyday on the street, but when a car pulls up revin the engine, I floor it to about 60-70mph and throw a thumbs up. Does no one else with fd's do that?

you don't need new gears to get to 60-70 mph

Depending on your HP levels, you might want to just stay with 3.9

My car has the stock 4.1 diff and with over 400 rwhp, I can't get traction until 3rd gear! I'm actually thinking of putting in a 3.9 rear end in mine to help reduce my wheelspin in 1st and 2nd. The downside to this is that I also take my car to the track and for THAT, I'd actually want a 4.3 since I'm only in 3, 4, and 5 there.

Compromises....

Brian

No one is flaming we are tryimg to enlighten and lengthen this boys/girls life span a few years! Also his drivers lic. privalidges!
And please don't speak for everyone when you say we all have done it. As i already stated, I race on tracks ONLY and always. Maybe it was cause my parents and grandparents used to beat me when i drove to fast. Who knows?
