3rd gen upper to 2nd gen lower..
I already did the search... I have a series 5 turbo motor I'm building, I just got my 3rd gen upper intake and throttle body that I had planed to mate to my stock series 5 lower. Upon comparing ports the series 5's primaries are a LOT closer together then the 3rd gen. I knew I was going to have to port match,, but theres no way theres enough material and there would be a bulge in the runner just to match them. Unless, filling lower primaries with weld and some major port re-work. Soul Assassin mentioned a company who uses 2nd gen lowers and reworks them for stock 3rd upper. Were can I get a hold of these people?? What exactly do they do to the lowers? fill them up with welding and re-port them? Please tell me their not in Japan and they speak english . I also notice that 3rd gen upper manifolds have SMALLER diameter port runners,,,yeah,, SMALLER..wtf? Any help from people who have done this mod and/or know how I can get in touch with people who have would be greatly appreciated.

I havent seen an adapter available anywere.Soul Assassin's intake does not appear to have any type of adapter ( https://www.rx7club.com/photo/index....=3126&size=big ). Also he said he sent it to some company and they mod it, I was just wondering what they do to the manifolds and how I can get in touch with them.

the second gen lower is sent ot garagevanna in japan where they do not speak english and they modify it for a direct bolt on for the 3rd gen upper. also you will need the FD throttle cable and FD tps sensor and rewire your FC tps. i know somewhere here they sell adapter plates but i have no clue where, also the stock ports are smaller but who keeps it stock? i polished and ported everything in mine inluding the tb

Thanks Soul Assassin, you would'nt happen to know what they did to the lower do you? Like weld it up and report it?? And how can I get a hold of Garagevanna? I DO plan on porting and polishing all intake and exhaust pieces, and Im running a Wolf 3D, so ems is not a problem.

If you do a search on it w/ my username you will see how I did it. There is a little taken off the S5 LIM primaries, but its almost all out of the smaller S6 primaries to get them to line up- so the "bulge" is minor- just port those little 3rd gen primaries up to the bend and re-radius the bend for a shallow curve. 3rd gen UIM secondaries are actually a tad bigger.
Since my post I also match marked the manifolds and gaskets so that I can line the ports up exactly even w/ stud to hole slop and milled the S6 UIM holes out to the S5 stud pattern; as well as decided to weld up back of ACV bump so I can grind that out.
Geez, my post didn't help you when you searched? Ian

Thanks guys,,
Yeah, Ian i read your post and was amazed that you did EVERY THING I was planing on even getting rid of that bridge on series 6 upper were the t/b and manifold is and the buldge were the middle bolt goes on the sreies 5 lower primaries, to even welding up the AVC so I could grind it smooth..lol.. guess great minds think alike . I just did'nt like to have a bulge in the intake runner just to mate the upper and lower even though I planed on opening up the runners in the upper. i'll most likely do both, fill in the lower with welding it up, then grinding it out and porting the hell out of the upper also. What did either you guys do with that NASTY BIG square hole close to the t/b in the upper primary? its kinda big to weld, I might make a aluminum plug and use high temp epoxy then smooth it. And Soul,,, how can I get a hold of GarageVanna???????????

Nasty big rectangular hole(s) I am using w/ stock idle air bypass solenoid and Haltech to regulate idle. Deep round hole in primary "throat" I am plugging w/ billet rod bolted to a block off plate. I think I will weld up EGR port and some little vacuum ports (you don't need many w/ Haltech and no emmisions.) and grind off the ACV boss and EGR passage. I think custom sheetmetal manifolds would have been easier in the long run...Ian
