300zx headlight conversion

i saw this picture on another forum. the car was supposed to be in japan, and the guy that posted the pic said that he found the pic on this forum about a year ago.

does anyone have any information about whos car it is or how exactly he did it? ive got some ideas, but the more i know the cheaper it will be in the end.

yeah it looks surprisingly clean looking, however it does make the front look a helluva lot like a 300z as previously mentioned.

goddamnit, the seven really needs a good priced headlight conversion kit. Knightsports prices can kiss my ***, they're damn terrible! Like I mean 300$ or so for flushmounts.

It seems like all the fabricators that make this, it only costs them like 100$ in parts tops for everything but the bulbs, but they go out and charge 1000$ for the damn setup. I mean sure, R&D has to go into the price, but they jack the markup on that way beyond 100%.

I always wanted to try fitting 3000GT or similar lights in. Wonder how that'd look.

Hrm . . . different

I think all the fun is in making it yourself

Besides, that setup obviously involved cutting, so you cant really make it an easy 'kit' like the Knightsports one. :/ <= My guess

I think it looks better on an FC than a Z32 from looking at that pic.

On the cheap light conversion, you all need to stop being dead beats or take it into your own hands. The price of the setups out for our cars doesn't JUST INCLUDE the parts' cost. Its called tallent and quality, its insulting to an accomplished fabricator to have people ask for that kind of a price for that level of a kit.

it looks like he extended the hood down on the sides a few inches to the back of the lights, cut the bumper and glassed the ftp's in. i know i can do this, but wanted to see if anyone on here knew anything more about this guy's method that would have saved me some trouble. this conversion imho looks better than any of the current outrageously priced aftermarket replacements. if it looks a little more like a 300zx i think it still beats the popups, especially at night...ugh.

What I don't get is why don't people leave the pop ups as they were intended, they are part of the history of the 7. Alot of poeple don't like the idea of sticking piston engines in the 7, so isn't it they same for the lights. Just a grumpy thought?

I like 'em.

I do want to ditch those big-honkin' granny bulbs that come stock and fab a nice two lense halogen solution (cheaper then HID and less hassle). That I think would look pretty sweet.

Does anyone have experience with modifying the extending arms for the headlights to make them change the amount the headlights raise? I'm not going for the sleepy eye effect, but I do want to shorten the amount so it only opens enough for the lenses to show completely.

it looks nice. but I love pop ups. I would think that a template would start you off blow out everything to make them squeze in, and then try the fit, make brakets and adjust the hight. I have seen a couple headlight conversions in progress and they are tricky! good luck on attempting this it looks awesome

I think that it looks good and i would be interested in seeing a writeup of how you did it if you do end up doing it, just for the hell of it. But personally i love the pop ups, its so cool to turn them on at night because it looks like the car is waking up But i would like to have some nice halogen bulbs

Thumbs up

thats hawt. no, really it looks much better than i would have imagined, really goes with the lines of the fc.

to make it look better i would look into extending the trun signals, so they are the same length as the headlights....i think that might look really good. If someone can photoshop that, i would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.
