3 questions for vert owners

It looks like I may be buying this 91 vert in my sig. It's super clean but has a small tear at the bottom of the convertible top, just above and behind the drains.
Apparently this is a common problem but my questions are:
1. Approximately how much will a top cost (materials +
labor)?
2. What's a good source?
3. Has anyone installed one themselves or is
professional installation required?

I like doing my own work when possible.

Thanks.
Lou.

there is a seller on ebay that has been selling tops for just under $300+ shipping

And the 'vert top is a very hard convertible top to do. Unless you have considerable automotive experience with interiors, and mechanicals I would not recommend doing it yourself.

Maybe if you feel comfortable with removing and re-installing the entire interior, you might attempt it.

My 91 had a new top installed $1200 by previous owner.
Top of the line canvas. Same as German cars.
Make sure you do not pay for a top with the inside finished. You do not see it behind the 7's liner.

I fixed the small tear on my 89 with black DuPont marine 5200 sealant.

Someone cut the top in the front section. I used 5200 and West Epoxy has a textured non stick material which matches the origional top. 5200, textured material, brick. Next day pull off the non-stick textured sheet, cut sealed. And does not look too bad.

I appreciate the responses, guys.
Do you guys think that $4,500 is reasonable buy for this car? White, black-top, black leather, 5-speed. No tears in the seats. All original, even paint (nice and shiny). No accidents. 95,200 miles. Has the vert top and what looks like the boot for the targa top. It has that small tear in the roof that put RTV on. Engine/drivetrain is awesome. Wish my GT vert was that tight.
I've seen the prices on these cars vary A LOT .
There was just a 90 vert with 40k that sold for $7,777 on eBay. There's also been clean-looking cars that haven't reached $2,500.

Thanks.
Lou.

I think you should keep looking...Sounds rather high to me unless it was in perfect shape, but not with bad leather and a possibile top replacement. Heck, I paid 3k for my 88 vert with bad leather and a perfect top and 125k miles, and I think I overpaid.
