My 86 N/A has many mods - rebuilt motor with turbo rotors, RB header, Turbo secondary injectors, alum flywheel, etc. Have done 146 on a slight downhill run at about 6,000 ft elevation in N Wyoming! Used to cruise across parts of central Wy at 135 for an hour or more! Yes, it is probably reading high at that speed, but is still WAY fast.

Up near sheridan? You can do a sprint from gillette to sundance in just a few minutes cruizing that speed.

I ran into a federal trooper going 126mph about 4 few years back a couple miles out of sundance. He was along side the road and he tapped his brakes for just a milisecond when i was about a mile behind him. It was 3am at night, no traffic on the interstate at all. I nailed the breaks and drove past him going 70. He didn't follow us. About ten minutes later, I wanted to get home (still 120ish miles) so I step on it. I crossed state lines and figured he wouldn't. about 10 minutes after the state line, I sped upCruising 125 again, adn in the rear view mirror is a car about a 1mile back CATCHING on me. Holy **** I thought. I slowed again and he started pacing me about 1/2 mile back. On the first blind exit where he couldn't see me cause of the internstate turns, I sped up, nailed the exit and drove under the bridge jsut as he flew over. I flew on the service road to the next exit, and tried to catch back up to him. I was going as fast as i could (around 126) and couldn't catch him. I dropped my buddy off at his car, and he called me about 20 minutes later "hey man, theres a federal cop filling his car at the gas station next to the base entrance"

LOL... That cop followed us for about 115 miles, across the state border too. Crazy ****.

Last time I'll try to outrun the cops though, I was young **** back then...

You're aware that these mods would have made the engine produce significantly less power right? Lower compression and way too much fuel...

It's amazing how people think that all "turbo" parts must make the car faster. This engine must be down ~10% on power with those two mods...

I really don't know how you would hit 140
unless the speedo was messed up

I was doing ok though not easy to hit 120 or so (top of 4th) but once I hit 5th gear all acceleration just went down hill after that

and with your 79.x mph in the 1/4 it doesn't sound like your car has all the greatest power in the world

Exactly, and your speedo was wrong.

If you'd read my earlier post you'd know that your "stock" engine would need ~40% more power to get to 140mph over the ~125mph others are quoting. How do you explain that? Downhill maybe...?

About 18 times more. That's why a car capable of reaching 170mph only needs a very small amount of throttle travel to cruise at 65mph.

Same with any car. You need 8 times more power to double your speed. This is why engines have throttles.

How can you guys figure that you go 147 mph 132 mph or these other odball numbers? Frankly I'm a bit concerned that you are looking at your speedo long enough to figure that! That's downright scary that you can take the time to say 137 When I had my v6 Chevy Caprice I'd ped that thing and get an estimated 130 mph, but I wasn't staring at the speedo. All I remember is that needle was pointing striaght down. I got out of that go fast phase when I saw one of those police cop chases on tv that there was a guy driving a c5 vette and wiped out at 140 and walked away from the accident. That really hit home, plus the fact I was driving a 5000 pound Caprice.

To be sure on your speed use a speed/rpm calculator, put in what size tires, gears, and rear end gear sizes. Thats why I listed rpm's with my speedo reading when I listed my top speed. My speedo is really close to actual speed at all speeds.

yes it was downhill. and the track time is from when i was stock, i also have a bad clutch to add on to the bad 1/4 time.

Bragging about a 140mph top speed but not telling us it was while driving downhill makes you look like a complete fool.

My speed-o was reading ~145mph with the stock catback on my way to the bridge in lower michigan.

On virtually all cars, the speedos are calibrated from the factory to read faster than the car is actually going. It generally ranges from about 3-5 MPH fast at 60 in my experience. That said, I got my car up to 135 when I ran out of road. The road was totally flat and it was still accelerating a little. Theres a road on the way to Houston that has very long steep hills, and I'm sure I could actually get it to accelerate some in 5th gear. I actually got my '93 626 with 120k miles up over 135 (on speedo) there. I haven't been down there since my engine was brocken in, though.
The previous owner of my car raced it regularly, and actually got it clocked at 131 MPH with a radar on a track near Corpus Christi. At the time it had about 185k miles on it and nothing at all done to the engine. The only power adders were a Bonez intake, a Bonez racepipe and no cat-backs.
Is there anyone else who has actually gotten their cars actuarately clocked on a track? I'd like to hear some other accurate speeds people have gone.

113 on one of those 'check your speed' radar things, speedo said I was at around 120. The fastest I've got recorded using my GPS was 136 in my Sport (speedo said around 145)

you can get acurate speeds if you take a tach reading and calculate back from the gear ratios and tire size. i should certainly hope the tach is accurate......

It's not. The damn tach is off the higher the RPM (says the s-afc, wideband, and my snap-on timing light)
