2nd gen NA Top Speed Poll

well hello all, we are discussing the top speed of 2nd gen NA rx7's over in the NW forum area, and I want the imput of the rest of the forum. So how fast have you gone in your NA FC?

tri_tam 05-22-04 01:42 PM

in stock it's only go to 136 or 137mph in 4th gear
and slow when shift to 5th

Diavolo 05-22-04 02:19 PM

137

ra ra rotory 05-22-04 02:33 PM

Iv done 135.. On a downward slope. On flat I can only pull like 120, than my oil soaked excedy clutch starts giving out.. Mods below

RotaryBuddha 05-22-04 02:35 PM

125 on highway

MichaelFregoe 05-22-04 02:36 PM

I have had 5 FC's (NA) (1986-1988) of all types since they were new. They go 128-130 MPH TOPS! Any faster than that then they are modded or the speedo is wrong. I can't tell you what a 1989-1991 NA will do because I have no experience driving one that fast.

ForsakenRX7 05-22-04 03:50 PM

My boy Hutch's modded NA, we've gotten that lil hoe to a lil past 140. 143 I believe is the exact. But that was it. It wouldnt push anymore than that. topped out.

RX7 allnight 05-22-04 04:54 PM

stock FC no go past 120..street port 720 secondries
intake/exh my 1988 vert on the free way 60-120 mph
so quik it surpises me, top speed of 130-135mph
i heard the stock tans cant really go past 140-145?

ForsakenRX7 05-22-04 04:59 PM

We did it. Explain that one. And speedo was not broke. It surprised me too but the car WAS pegged.
His wasnt ported either. It had:
No emissions
weight reductions
intake
exhaust
16" rims which might have helped.
removed 5th/6th ports

hekso 05-22-04 07:01 PM

hit 148 in a 86 gxl on 15 south to la
with full rb exhaust and header
mild street port
pineapple 6 port sleeve inserts
550 secondary
460 primary
underdrive pulleys
no smog
89-91 intake swap
cold air box in lower grille
tb mod
rb street strip clutch
magnecore 11mm plug wires
no p\s no\ac

hekso 05-22-04 07:03 PM

forgot to mention it has the automatic rear end and that it still wanted to go faster

FcsIII 05-22-04 07:45 PM

I have gone 150 mph in my 87 fc N/a I had Full exhaust from racing beat, HKS Intake, and A center force dual friction clucth. It takes a little while of being on it though. I could easly get to 135-140 mph.

driftfreak 05-22-04 07:56 PM

i was runnin at 130+mph when i had my car in gemrmany...its an 88 vert

George84 05-22-04 08:02 PM

When I first got my car I topped out at 128mph with stock everything, now I get her up to 145mph(8k in 4th) at least 2 times a week. When I topped her out I go to 8,600rpm in 4th (150mph) then shift into 5th and if I hold it to the floor I can keep it going 150mph for as long as I want.

Parastie 05-23-04 12:24 AM

the fastest i could get my car was 125, now i can't get it to go past 120. Something's up but i'm not sure what it is...i think it's the lack of cold air and the hotter weather.

hondasuck 05-23-04 12:24 AM

132MPH
Intake and Exhaust

NOS FC3S 05-23-04 03:58 PM

257 km/h on the bottle

NZConvertible 05-23-04 06:04 PM

This topic of this thread shouldn't be "top speed"; it should "highest speedo reading". If you guys think the speedo isn't reading high at those speeds, you're kidding yourself.

Some claims here simply defy the laws of physics. Power required increases to the third power of speed, so to increase your top speed from 130mph to 140mph (~8%) you need 25% more power, and you need to be making it 8% higher in the rev range. Assuming a stock 160hp S5 can reach 130mph, it'll need 200hp to get to 140mph. To get to 150mph you'd need 245hp. See how some claims start to sound a bit unlikely?

Travisty 05-23-04 07:03 PM

Thats assuming everything is flat, there is no wind, the air temp is at what? WAY to many things go into how fast your car can go. Not just hp. (not bashing just making another pointer)

Math isnt always right. (yeah I know it sounds dumb)

RXciting 05-23-04 07:08 PM

215 auxilery ports not workin and slipping clutch.. mazdatrix straight dual exhaust..

MichaelFregoe 05-23-04 07:34 PM

This place should be called the RX-7 MIS-information forum.

Let me go along with the flow of insanity here.....

OK.... My modded FC NA with the usual mods... Let me pick a number....????..... It goes.... 170+ in 3rd gear uphill into the wind.... I do it several times weekly...

stock FC modded... TOPS=135 MPH AT BEST!!!!!

That's completely correct, but if you're quoting top speed on an incline you're an idiot, and it's going to take a hurricane-strength tailwind to get an NA FC with an exhaust up to 150mph. Air temp doesn't have a huge effect, as both power and air resistance increase as air temp decreases and air density increases.

Math isnt always right.
Yeah it is actually. But we can use it wrong... ;)

Well with those secondaries you're probably losing 30 HP when they kick in, so....

Same here...Put the stockers back in and lean it out some...

basicly what I ment to say.

3rd gear that fast?! lol j/k

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 05-23-04 09:34 PM

I had mine on 150mph on the stock speedo, still had some rpms to go too.
