2nd and 3rd Ports

I have an '88 NA with some ricer manifold back single tip exaust system. (previous owner)
The vacuum line for EGR is now bent in half and laying across my motor mount.
My question is

1) I obviously don't have my second and third ports opening, but besides a lack or hp and tq, are there any other negative effects?

2) Could the single tip 2.5in exhaust with a cherry bomb as a resonator and one as a muffler cause any bucking on decel or holding a constant speed?

And I'm planning on going TII, so would it be a waste the find a new one for my NA or are they transferable?

Although it sucks having less horsepower than the average commuter, at this point I'm just worried about keeping my car alive.

Sorry I'm not fluent on the actual name of the object that I'm refering to, but I'm new to the rotary and trying my best to save, and start this one from scratch.

MSB.

You mean 5th and 6th?

Don't use a cherry bomb on a rotary, you'll melt it in no time.

Your two and 3 ports are open. It's your 5 and 6 ports that you have to check. Aaroncake has a good explanation how to check them. It didn't come up when you searched because you misnamed the ports. My guess is that that the ports are working ok. I think a more likely explanation for the phenomenon you describe is that the glass in the cherry bombs has melted down and now the exhaust gases won't flow out. The exhaust on a 13B is quite a bit hotter than on a piston engine. It would have the same effect as Eddie Murphy's banana in the tailpipe of the police car.

Good luck.

What you're calling the EGR vacuum line is actually the split air pipe. This serves 2 purposes: supplying air from the air pump to the main cat & allowing exhaust backpressure to open the auxilliary ports at 3800 rpm. It's not related to the EGR at all.

Don't worry about NA and TII exhaust components interchangeability. Everything from the cat to the mufflers is swappable. Just the exhaust manifold / downpipe sections differ. Do yourself a favor and get a good catback system and steel-packed silencer/resonator. Corksport makes a great one for $150, and it has the same dimensions as the stock main cat. You will still need to get the split air pipe welded back onto it or another part of the exhaust.

1) Nope
2) What w00t said.
3) Catbacks are more or less interchangeable, as long as you swap the Y pipe too. Noise level may be affected a little.
4) Sounds like something is broken; prolly more than just the 5th and 6th ports even. The stock NA has the same acceleration as a recent model Civic Si, BMW 3 or Mustang V6. The average commuter is signficantly worse. Start with Haynes manual chapter 1 or www.aaroncake.net or better yet both. After you cover all the basic maintenance figure out what's still broken.

I have cherry bombs on my T2. They are a little loud but they seem to be holding up OK. They sound really good.

I'm very aware of the difference in exhaust temperature on a rotary motor. It wasn't my idea to put those on there, but my car beforehand died so my car and the rx-7 were swapped hands "as-is".
The glasspack is far from still there and sounds the equivalent of a Cesna idling in the parking lot. It will be replaced as soon as I decide what the plans for this car are.

I'm pretty sure the bucking is being caused by the transmission based on the constant whine and rattle it presents. (throw out bearing?) But, I just wanted an opinion other than my own.

I know most "build the car from the beginning" guys will frown upon this, but I'm most likely going to try to trade this car plus some cash for something else. Maybe a TII, or the dreaded S13 that you rotary guys don't seem to like.
lol.

You can see from my list of various tech threads that this car needs to be taken care of and redone, which I cannot afford. It seems starting from a better platform (better of FC or other car, don't take that as a reference to the s13 chassis!) and something a little more dependable.

Sorry for the confusion on the port numbering I misread somewhere.
