2gen reliability

I am new to rotary engines, looking to buy a 2gen with about 78k miles on it and he says the engine does not hold idle well and has compression issues, would this be a good way to go since i have not a lot of money? Its a T2 car and he also says that after it wams up it drives like a charm. Get back to me.

Unless you got the time and the money to fix the engine, don't do it.

At 78K, it's in its 4th quarter.

Look at the deal just like any other car, but budget for a rebuild in a year or so.

If he said there are compression issues that could be a harbringer of something far fowler such as needing a rebuild sooner (you will need one in another 22K anyway?)
