Question 2cycle engine oil?

I hear things about 2 cycle engine oil being thrown around on the newsgroup but I haven't found a thread that explains what it is good for or if it should be used at all. What are some of your oppinions?

Premix

I use premix cause I have no choice. The engine I bought came with an electric oil metering pump. My car came stock with a mechanical one.

It works great. I have no problems whatsoever. As a matter of fact, it feels smoother and keeps my spark plugs cleaner. Remember....2 cycle oil is designed to burn. Much easier and cleaner than conventional oil. That means...cleaner rotors...cleaner sparkplugs....better emissions...and piece of mind. In my opinion.....everyone should use premix!!!!!!!!!

So you have an after market oil metering pump? or does my 87 TII have an electric one too? even if it doesn't should I use it 2 cycle engine oil? Is premix the brand of oil? do I put the 2 cycle engine oil in my fuel tank? how much do I put with a full tank of gas? i'm thoroughly confused.. any help would be appreciated. thanks

there have been COUNTLESS debates on the pros/cons of premix. a few people on here run it... and please USE THE SEARCH BUTTON.
search for omp vs. premix, or just omp (oil meetering pump) or just premix. believe me u will get alot more than u even need

...I normally use two ounces of two stroke oil per full tank. I mainly use it to keep my engine from carbon locking.

What exactly is carbon locking?

series 4 engines (86-88) have a mechanical omp
So My 1987 TII has a mechanical pump? Can I tell the difference if I was analyzing it visually? If so, how?

Thanks the krza, i'll do that

use it dude

8 ounces of certified premix to every full tank. wait till your on empty then poor the premix in the tank then fill her up. easy as ****. just gotta do it every fill up. keep the metering pump working and use the premix as extra protection.

i use valvoline certified premix from discount auto parts. the bottle has measurement marks so you know how much to use (8 ounces). it costs $2.somethin for 32 ounces. i recommend you use full synthetic too but thats on you.

what spark plugs do you use when you run the engine without the OMP? I'm using right know NGK BP8ES and BP9ES and I have a lot of trouble with fouling. I never used the stock spark plugs. Would be a good choice to use the stock ones with premix without fouling problem?

I use the Lucas Fuel Treatment in both my 86 gxl and 88 TII. Burns cleaner that the 2 cycle oil. A friend and I had contacted lucas and explained our wanted use. Its been working great for about a year in my n/a and about a week in the TII.

If your OMP is working properly, you don't really need 2-stroke premix. Some people like to use it for personal reasons.

If your OMP is not working properly, you need the 2-stroke added to your fuel to prevent excessive wear of the engine seals. Any 2-stroke oil will do as long as it meets the TCW-3 (sometimes shown as TCW3) specification. That means that it has an ashless burn. I've been using whatever is cheapest from Pepboys or K-mart for 8 years with no problems.

I have programable ECU and that's the reason that I dont use the OMP. Do you use the oil ratio for 1oz per gallon of gas? That is the ratio that I'm using. I think that maybe the problem can be the spark plugs. Maybe I need to switch to the stock ones.

Seriously? how do you have 100+ posts. Read about these things. If you don't understand after you read ask. You can find an awesome writeup on Premixing by PATMAN.

That's the reason I'm using premix. I was advised to use 25 ml. of 2-stroke oil per 1 gal. of gasoline. That's a little bit less than the 1 oz. you're using, but it's close.

I have run pre-mix for over a year now. When I replaced my PD on the fuel rail, I noticed my OMP lines where pretty cooked, and had been that way for some time im sure.
I sealed the lines off, and now use 1oz 2cycle per gallon of fuel. I like the synthetic Klotz motorcycle oil w/ caster. Mmmmm smells like racing fuel too.
It is a pain in the *** sometimes to fuel in a hurry, but I dont second guess if the seals are getting lubrication. And yes! there ARE plenty of threads on this topic.

Trusting the omp is like trusting your girlfriend to take the pill everyday. Using premix, although not natural feeling when you fill the tank and a little inconvenient, gives a certain feeling of safety & assured lubrication. You never have to worry about your apex seals running dry and scraping along the walls of your girls housing. She could always shoot something through an omp line and clog things up,but when you put it in the tank she has to swallow and she she won't even notice that she did, how good is that.

I love this analogy.

Since im still using the omp i do a 1oz per 3 gallons with the addition of the omp.
From what i seen, premix evenly lubricate the internals instead of little drops dripping down.

i've been using premix for a while now too... it does the job... that is only because i have eliminated the OMP with a block off plate. but i agree on the "in a hurry fill."

the public eye, "crazy! oil in the gas?"

us, "(just smile)"

For using in conjunction with the OMP, you really don't need more than 3 to 5 oz. I'll put that much during a track day or an autox day.
