280 Spin Turn

Well...today was quite interesting! I'm here turning onto a dry road at about 20-22 mph(no I wasn't doing anything stupid drifting etc.) and bam I hear something from the back and the car goes crazy and I end up doing zig-zags trying to control the car and end up doing a 280 = hitting a curb + rear axle flying out with the wheel stuck. Everything happend so fast like a nightmare come true.
I'm very lucky! No body damage whatssoever

I'm trying to figure out what in the world happend so it doesnt happen again this is also my first rear wheel drive car as i've been driving front wheel all my life...but heres some ideas

1) Going to fast on that turn? I can't remember but maybe i put to much gas after?
2) My tires barely have any tread left
3) Bad Driveaxles? Very rusty

Before this happend when I was driving I would sometimes hear/feel something that was lose in the back of the car...

Has anyone experienced this before? I'm planning on taking classes at a driving school...I must say that was one of the most scariest experiences...

Heres some pics

Any idea how much $$$$$$$$ to replace?????

yuck.....

sounds like something critical came loose or broke in the turn, unfortunately the evidence looks to be hard to pinpoint now with the damage, my suggestion is to have the right side suspension/axle replaced and have the whole steering/suspension checked out by a professional shop.

Any of your tires flat? I'd look for things that are broken/loose on the other side, or that weren't a result of the 'curb'

Inspect the damage on the front tire, perhaps you lost the front tire in the corner which caused the initial loss of control, you'll usually be able to tell if it blew from hitting something or skidding, rather than a natural blow-out. Also, I'd inspect all of the other tires and their suspension components, see if anything is loose or there is any movement in the other tires, such as side to side or in and out.

If the tire faild you may have a shot at holding the dealership responsible for not doing a proper inspection and sending you out on a deth trip.

Yeah, I'd inspect the front tire and try to determine the reason it's flat, either from a puncture, just wore out and exploded on it's own, or from hitting something and knocking the bead off, etc. It's hard to say, did you find the axle at all?

Hows the other end of the CV that's still attatched feel? Is it all sloppy or somewhat tight? I'd suspect you lost the tire suddenly which lead to the loss of control, although if you were hearing noises from the rear you could have a broken differential mount (one of the rear ears, not the front), you're just going to have to inspect the rear underbody and see if you can find anything broken that's unrelated to the curbing.

If at all possible you should try to get the dealership to fix this, if not, you sould be able to obtain parts easily from a junk yard, if i had what you need i'd GIVE it to you, unfortunatley all i have extras of is junk (a.k.a stock radios and rusted exhausts etc.)

Good luck getting it taken care off, it'll be a fun car once its fixeded right.

So much for that...

and to the post above me wow thats crazy! Much 100x worse than mine! Did you get everything repaired? As long as you were safe thats the only thing that matters

Looking at that brake hose, being stressed like that, you might want to replace those while you are in there.

ME:It's good to hear...I got a shitty car! I'll let everyone know not pay a visit to your dealership! I don't like to be a bitch but.....wow! I'll never forget that day.

Kline Nissan:What could you possibly have expected for $2750? The new ones are down the street for $25000.

ME:Sure its cheap but this is from a dealership! A dealership should INSPECT the car 100% to see if the vehicle is going to be running in fair condition on the road and not go sending me to my grave within two days! I would not be complaining if this was sold by a private seller as they sell AS IS! I did not even hear a recommendation for new set of tires! I have friends that bought their cars for much less with no problems whatsoever!!!!!!

Sorry I'm not a fan of bitching....but since that day its giving me a headache

If I do goto court with this issue...I'm not sure if I have a chance of winning...I mean what proof do I have?

Its been 6 hours...no response yet

By the way I am the same person. I have two screen names on this board.

Multiple SN's? Did you inspect the other parts of the car yet?

After inspecting the vehicle I am quite certain that the tire blew out on its own. After inspecting the rear, the CV is tight. I have found nothing else relates to the curbing. I am going to have a mechanic take a look tonight just to be 110% positive!

Ok, be sure you check the rear suspension parts, and also check the differential mounts, go over it with a fine-toothed comb and see what you can dig up.

I want to know how the rear upright broke! The axle does nothing to locate the wheel so the axle was a colateral failure. Can you take a closeup of the fractured piece? A clean break will be rough. A crack that has been progressing will be shiny where the two pieces rubbed together and rough where it finally snapped.

I don't know enough about consumer protection laws to know if you'd have a case against the dealership. I'd do some research to see if gross safety defects might be covered by any consumer protection laws. Imagine if that had happened while taking an on or off ramp!

I'd assume that's the tire that took the brunt force of the 'curb', which is a pretty easy explination.
