If it runs good and doesn't smoke, then just keep taking care of it. I would start saving for a rebuild since it is getting old, but theres no reason to think it will suddenly die.

I hope my rebuild lasts that long. I'm already on 100,000.

An NA rotary almost never "wears out". It usually dies suddenly from an overheat. Change the coolant & replace the thermostat with an OEM one every 12-18 months. For coolant use ethylene glycol that's safe for aluminum and distilled water, 50:50. Never ever use Dexcool, etc., etc. Inspect the hoses, fan belts (and other belts) regularly. Do all that and it should go to 350k+.

A distant 2nd on the cause of failure is sudden loss of oil. Never over/under tighten the drain plug. Replace the oil cooler lines if you get a leak.

Pull over immediately if the temp needle ever gets near/on H or if the oil pressure gauge hits zero or if the coolant/oil buzzer goes off.

My 87's coming up on 250K on it's original build as well. Hopefully it'll last until this summer when I'll have time to play with it more.

You can get an idea of the condition of the engine by doing a compression check.
