2 intercoolers?

is it doable, would it make things better, or is it stupid and a waste of time?

me and a friend where dreaming about unique things today, and we thought of that, like an FMIC and a stock Top mount intercooler, and a Y pipe going to each, then a Y pipe where they both come back together and go into intake, just wondered if it would do anything extra and if it does has anyone beat me to the idea(im sure someone has if it works)

I'm pretty sure (i'm not a turbo guy) But there would be to much pressure loss. Not worth it.

the way that you describe it makes about twice as much pressure drop as there would be if you simply ran the piping through one intercooler then through the other, however even if you did it that way there would be way to huge a pressure drop.

wouldnt the pressure just be lower in the intercoolers, and then get high again at the second Y pipe, the way i meant it was it would be in like 2" (or whatever pipe) then go through both intercoolers then go back to 2" (or whatever pipe) so would the pressure stay low when it went back into the 2 inch pipe or would it be higher again because its being forced through a smaller area, not a big fan of bernule(sp?) but i thought that the pressure would work like that

or make a switch over valve when you go above 60 mph it switches to the FMIC and any below will be using the TMIC, for thorttle response...hrmmm...

NO this isnt about one intercooler, this is about 2 non sequential intercoolers....i want to know if it would work physically, i dont think i would lose pressure because it goes from lets say 3 inch (not sure on sizes) then into 2X1.5 pipes then back into the original size

Wrong way around. Pressure drop is always much less if you run things in parallel rather than in series.

I wouldn't recommend it though. It's a lot of work for little gain. Most of the disadvantages of the top-mount location can only be solved by moving it.

if its cooling you want then try a two core volvo intercooler. Just have a weld shop weld them together with holes connecting them and plug on outlet and the opposite inlet. I'm doing one for my friends mustang and hes running upwards of 20 boost

I don't think you could do that with a 4-cylinder inside a 1967 Bonneville engine bay.. that's an INCREDIBLY complex system taking up a ton of space.
