1st gen rear diff carrier
Does anyone know if the carrier out of the first gen will fit in the S5 NA rearend? I have a line on a cheap LSD from a friend and would like to make it work. I know very littel about the first gens other than that they were solid axle, making this a difficult task most likely. Any thoughts or comments are welcome. Fabrication is not an issue, so if welding/grinding is involved no problem. Thanks.

The carrier is the part that has the ring gear, the clutch pack, etc.. . I would like to know if it will fit in my 2nd gen differential housing or how much work it will take to get it to fit.

Why dont you just take the LSD unit out of the 1st gen and swap in into your FC rear end, they are directly interchangable.
As for if the FB carrier will bolt onto the aluminum FC part, the bolt locations look to be the same, but Ive never actually tried it. The FB uses a short pinion, while the FC uses a much longer one, so you'd need a custom driveshaft. But again, why not just swap the LSD unit only and avoid all the hassle.

ok, thats what i was looking for. I was un-sure if the LSD unit would fit in the FC rear end. A direct swap would be very nice. Thanks for the info. Further comments are welcome.

If you need a walk-through on swapping out diffs, I did a little write-up when I was swapping my Torsen unit in. Maybe it will help you out a little..
