1st gen needs 2nd gen turbo purchase advise
I am a sa/fb guy, but a guy who lives here in town approached me about buying his 87 tII. I looked at it and checked the compression in the motor and it is good. The body is shot, but thats ok since I have a 2nd gen convertible I can drop the motor in. The car also has 5 lug A.R.E rims, looks pretty nice, kind of like 5 spokes on a grand prix. He said the motor is an 85 13b with the 13bt turbo on it and it looks just like the pictures.
At any rate, he is asking 400.00 for the setup. I think I can talk him to 250/$300 or that ballpark. He said the motor has a problem.. It idles extremely rough and always floods after its shut off, even after running it at operating temps.
So, ideas? Should I go drag the car home, or leave it?

umm..... if that is true I'd probably stay away... the 13b and 13bt engines are 99% different. if he put a turbo onto an 13b engine there was some gheto riging involved... and it'll never be the same as a 13bt.
you sure it's not still a 13bt engine??
also the rough idle and flooding means the engine is probably almost dead anyways.

Honestly, no, I don't know, I am just going on what the guy told me.
I am going to go check it out a second time. I figure the rims alone are worth the cost of this car, everything else is just gravy. Maybe I could part out the turbo unit, etc.

I'd buy it for that price. Hard to beat. If the compression is good he may just have fuel or ignition problems. If nothing else you could send that engine in for a rebuild and still come out smelling sweet.

It has a trailer hitch on it and the trailer came loose at one time and slammed into the passenger rear taillight lense housing and cracked the lense. someone tried to bondo it up and covered it with what looks like flat white house paint. Guy says it was like that when he got it.
The car has cracks and dents and chips all along it and is filthy. The guy put his motorcycle parts/truck parts, etc in the rear and on the seats so everything is covered in dust, oil, and grease.
The windshield is cracked.
The rims and rubber look very good though.
The dash is cracked in many places. The wheel well area is all dented and has alot of surface rust.
the list goes on and on and on.
