1st gear "squeeking"
This started just this past weekend, whenever I'm in 1st and decelerating it sounds like there are about a dozen mice squeeking away, and it's only does it when in gear. So what's going on me; the clutch, 1st gear bushings, or something on the back of the engine? Anyone have the slightest idea?

Same thing happens on my 88 se. A weird squeaking noise only when in 1st gear and decelerating. But it usually goes away after driving for a few minutes. My tranny vibrates a lot when when starting off in 1st, not sure if that's related. Bad clutch? My clutch holds pretty strong though, i can chirp the tires when going to 2nd

When was the transmission oil filled last? Your oil may be old and/or leaking out. Just a thought. I would think that if it was clutch related, then it would happen in all gears, not just first. Try deccelerating in 2nd or 3rd until it nearly stalls, and see if you hear it at all.

Guess I'll have to wait for it to get really loud or something breaks.

ooh ooh, I think I know this one.
on my car, I found that the bracket which holds the split air pipe was causing a sqeaking when it would rub against the metal of the pipe. (split air pipe is the long tube that goes from the engine to the main cat, the bracket is best accessible from underneath)
the noise occured for me mostly when decel at low speeds and low gears (like 2nd gear coming up to a stop sign)... and ALSO sometimes while accelerating in reverse.
anyway, check out that bracket, if you can secure it with something (a zip tie worked for me, but eventually melted away) and you can keep it from rubbing, then you'll know.

Check the u-joints. Just bought my first RX-7 and it came with a new Mazdatrix driveshaft. Previous owner said the u-joints were dried up and it definitely squeeks. OEM driveshaft has non-servicable u-joints (whole driveshaft must be replaced). The squeek is noticable in 1st and 2nd when accelerating and decelerating, but not when coasting in neutral. Also have a vibration at lower speeds that I suspect is related. I won't be replacing the driveshaft until I do the clutch, too, so can't tell yet is that's the whole story. Please keepthe thread going with results.

I have an autocross this weekend so maybe after that it'll be loud enough for me to find it.
The mechincs I normally take the car to couldn't find anything when it was up on the lift getting the clutch put in, and they are pretty damn good and thorough
