NY 1K idle

Is 1K idle too high on a s5 NA rx7? i'd like to know, what are the drawbacks of a idle thats higher then normal? more fuel consumption? power loss?

What modifications have been done to the car? Anything done to raise the idle? It could be a small vacuum leak, or maybe the throttle plates aren't adjusted. A 1000RPM idle isn't terrible. Fuel consumption probably won't be a factor.

my idle is about 1200 till it gets really hot then it settles down. i havent had any drawbacks other than they wont smog it cus its too high. the throttle response is a bit better when its a bit high tho probably not a bad thing

check for vacuum leaks, preferably with a shop smoke machine.

Check the fast idle cam is fully off the roller once the car is at operating temp.

Check that the throttle shaft is fully on the idle stop when the throttle is released; if the throttle cable is adjusted a bit too tight the throttle will not close completely when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal. If it is not closing all the way, loosen the cable.

Check the throttle opening at idle per the fsm specs. It should be open just a crack.

Clean the throttle body inside with carb cleaner.

Set the idle per FSM procedure. (Does this car still have a BAC valve?)

Change your thermowax. Yes, mazda wants $100 for it, but for gods sake, it makes a huge difference. I just replaced mine and readjusted the TB to speck and my car idles perfectly, starts perfectly...etc.
