1988 tubro II smog and fan help.
The car is a 1988 tubo II
So I failed smog. My readings were, at idle 2695 HC. And at 2500 RPMs its 388 HC. My Co% was 7.71 at idle and 4.05 and 2500 RPMs. So after reading the FAQs I have determined I need new cats. After searching I am having a hard time finding info on stock cats or even a high flow after market cats. If someone could please direct me to a good after market tubro back with cats I would be very grateful. Also I need to know if it's worth it to install an S5 fan on an S4.
Thanks for all of the help,
Blue

Rotary Performance sells bonez cats for the RX7. They are reputed to be specifically designed to survive the rotary exhaust.

If you use a complete exhaust from Bonez or anyone else, you need to prepare your car for the boost increase, or you will blow the engine.
Min. need FCD, Port the wastegate, increase fuel (SAFCII is easy, other possiblities exist).
Please pay attention or you will be starting another 'Wow, it ran like Stink and then it Blew' thread.
Good luck

Ok, thanks I have a SAFCII just sitting around so I will use that. My waste gate was ported by the previous owner along with the s5 rotors.
Now I must ask why if I open up the exhaust will it raise the boost? I'm not playing with the waste gate or anything, sorry if it is a dumb question.

Nurse I need 1300cc's NOW
because the open exhaust causes the boost to raise higher and faster. This is why most high boosting turbo cars run 3in or bigger on exhaust with no cats. Back pressure causes the turbo not to be used at its full potential. I know its not the scientific answer. but basically its the truth.

you can also get a half gallon of denatured alcohol pure, make sure you have a little less than half a tank of gas and pour the half gallon in. drive it hard to the emitions testing and you should pass if not dont blame me lol. I just did this on my car and i killed the emitions. so try this and hope it works out for you man.
