Question 1987 Heater Control Valve Location?

I just purchased an 87 from my wife's grandmother. Only 28,000 miles on it and if great shape considering it's age. Problem, which I seem to be reading a lot about is the heater. I need to locate the water control valve. I read that its under the dash on the drivers side but I cant see one. Is there anyone out there who has a picture of what it looks like and where it actually is? Do I need to remove anything to get to it? I replaced the heater core in my Alfa Romeo Spider a few years ago and it was a pain, but once you pull the front seats its not so bad. Once I can determine if the valve is working I may have a better idea what to do next. It appears that everything else works, so I'm thinking the water valve or plugged heater core.... any ideas form anyone?
