Question 1986 has a funny idle...

I just bought a 1986 rx-7 with a 13B engine in it....engine has just been rebuilt and guy told me it needed a tune up...I put new plugs and wires into it and its still seems to idle funny...like it bogs and then almost dies and then comes up...should I adjust the idle? or should I adjust the timing?

If the BAC is still on the car (little solenoid valve looking thingy on the left side of the dynamic chamber), then you need to adjust your idle per the FSM.

What's going on is, your mechanical idle is out of adjustment, so the engine RPMs fall below 750 (in some cases WAY below), then the BAC works its *** off to bring the idle back up, then it'll de-energize, thus continuing the process.

You need to jumper the check connector on the left side of the engine bay (to get the BAC out of the loop), then tweak the idle adjust screw (top of dynamic chamber) counterclockwise a couple of turns (or more) until the no-load idle hits 750 RPM...

Your BAC will thank you

What kind of ratio are you running?

If the compression sucks, even the correct ratio (around 100:1, or 1.28 ounces per gal) may foul them...

Not to scare you or anything, but did you ever wonder why a guy would sell his car right AFTER a rebuild? Makes me think something's wrong with it that he/she just couldn't figure out and/or didn't want to pay for to fix it properly...

if you could only see the body you would know.....it's got a lot of work alot alot alot of work to get it to safety....and I 've got a mint body..but a motor that needs a CAS...i bought the car for the price of the CAS and a gas tank...plus he's moving to alberta so he needed to sell it...i'll check the compression ratio...

I think the funny idle has to do with a fuel starvation problem...I tweaked the timing a bit...but the motor seems like its about to die out and it shutters...like as if either A) not ebough air getting to it or b) fuel starvation...i checked a now I'm gunna check b any ideas besides checking injectors, fuel filter, rail pressure?
