19 psi stock s5 turbo??

alright guys i have a SS auto chrome 3" turbo back, no boost controller, a 2.5" 70 deg aluminum pipe for turbo inlet duct, 2.5" black intercooler pipe, 27x12x3" FMIC, tial BOV,ACT xtss clutch. Doing some data loging with my microtech and laptop before i replaced the turbo inlet duct i was peaking/spikeing to 14PSI now im hitting 19 psi. between 3600-4900 rpms. That is also what looks to bethe peak boost and it holds a steddy 14-16 psi but hits 17,18,and 19 pretty consistant, air temps at 23c to 31c incressing with rev, water temp goes from 84-86.

Now im haveing two problems the first is a sound like a clutch slipping or BOV leaking weird higher pitch noise or a major amount of air going through a small pipe just under high loads. im guessing that is the turbo overspooling.

the other is a coolant temp problem it will climb on warmer days should i blame it on the brass non turbo radiator being blocked by large Front mount. LOL

OEM thermostat?

HOLY **** YOU ARE HITTING 19PSI ON THE STOCK TURBO!!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?
that needs to be tuned down a bit! They don't produce anymore power after 11-12psi, and you are WAY exceeding those limits. Is your wastegate ported? I would definitely blame the whining high pitched air sounds to the fact that you are pushing stock parts waaaaayyyy past their limits!

Believe it or not, I think you need to check for boost leaks.

I use this boost leak tester http://www.boostpro.net/prodtester.html along with soapy water. A guy on here named NZconvertible made his own tester. In my experience, the more boostleaks you have, the more you get that badass whooosh sound as the turbo is spooling (this is assuming you actually have an air filter on the turbo).

And I can't even make 1 psi right now. But what can I expect with 220k+ original cats and exhaust.

You'd better stay off the throttle.

I own my first turbo and get that whooosh sound when boost pressure builds, I'm going to have to read up on boost leak.

I've got a stock S5 JDM 13B turbo, except for a 3" Racing Beat exhaust with a presilencer, FCD, and a custom intake that's about 3-4" diameter. If I stomp on the gas I will get about 12 psi. I tend to take it easy on the car though, as it's a work in progress. I need to upgrade my fuel system, add a wideband, and some sort of engine managment. I'm leaning towards Megasquirt.

Something is wrong.
The stock turbo should not be able to boost that high with that big FMIC.
Does your boost who "0"with the engine off?

Boost controllers don't turn down boost, they only raise it. You need to port your wastegate to better control the boost.

Alright, i ordered a JVT Racing radiator and some other stupid parts. JVTR said i was the first person to order it other than dealers, also ordered some carbide griding bits for the wastegate. I will let you all know about my test it should work out.

I agree on the WG port, but if you have an S4 just porting to the WG flapper isnt enough, search for the write up on porting using the washer welded to the original flapper arm. I crept to 17 psi on the highway, it only took a second and my motor is now in boxes, trust me on this.

your waste gate actuator is stuck, broke, or not seeing any boost.

+2

19psi is like having a welded wastegate and let it spool for all it's worth.
