15.9v??

I'm running a 3rd gen alternator and all of a sudden it shows 15.9v cruising. Now my idiot cluster lights are all on.

Did I hurt something?

What would the case be.

Thanks

Sounds like the voltage regulator is on the fritz. Have the alternator tested.

Bring it into the shop warm too. My old alt did this but only when it'd gotten hot from driving. cold, it was fine.

I'd go with bad voltage regulator too. Does the voltage swing as engine speed changes?

Also, I wouldn't personally drive it a whole lot in that state - 16v is a bit high.

Is the voltage regulator in the alternator?

Yes it swings during rpm swing.

Just pulled it out. Going to go test it.

I dove 75km that way because I was to far from home

It just happened when I drove the car hard in one run............

Well, if it's still running, you should be OK. If you were to have fried something, it probably would have bailed by now.

If it's varying with RPM, it's about 99% certain that your voltage regulator is shot. It's probably easiest to just get a rebuilt alternator, though you can replace the voltage regulator if you can get the alternator apart.

Make sure the connector at the back is plugged in. It provides the bias for the regulator.

Connectors? Everything connect to the alternator was mad tight!!!

Still have not went to the shop to check it out yet

Eagle talon needed a wash since it was jealous of all the attention the RX7 has gotten lately

P.S
I really hate alternator belt dust!!!!!!!
