Why don't you do that in front of a cop with a calibrated speed gun and ask him how fast you were going just to make sure?

Want to know your exact speed?
Buy or borrow a handheld GPS.

Explain to us why a tachometer would be inaccurate after your car reaches 100mph.

140mph on a stock car with only an exhaust? Whatever dude.

^There was an old Top Gear posted in the video section not to long ago. They took an 86 GXL over 130.

I've taken my speedo to about 138. I've got a base 87 with a POS Pacesetter header. Granted my speedo is off about 7 mph at 90 mph, so I'm looking more at speeds of 125-130. And it took about two miles of straight road, and lthe car starting shaking like mad. I can only imagine the lack of rear spolier and front air dam meant bad things if I went faster.

Your speedo is off, bud.

i don't know... I had my 88gxl up over 140... Granted, it was a long straight and a bit of a downhill but not drastic. The only mods I have are intake, full exhaust including header and I did away with my mech fan, added electric. Whether was I was actually above 140 I doubt, but it was a solid upper 130's...

I have seen the 135s in my N/A car. It will go, it just takes it a little while to get there.

people max out the car cause they can't get good traps at the track... :P

my poor s4 n/a never liked top end cause of the automatic differential.

on the other hand, my old T2 saw 145 on the speedo...but who knows how accurate that was.

I have taken my car up to 142mph before...but then again...I do have mods to back it up...and it was smooth as ever..I came off a ramp onto the highway and just keep going. The car never started to shake, just smooth as can be. My mods are in my sig... RB header/presilencer....catback..

My car was actually clocked at 131 with a radar gun and the only mods were exhaust and a cone filter, with 200k on the original engine. That said, since the rebuild I've gotten mine over 145 on the speedo, which I figure is good for an honest 135.

Wow, another top speed thread. Add that to the 11,746 that already exist which all cover the same thing and end in a flame war.
