Talking 139mph in 5th @ 5500rpm abandoned airstrip.

I went down to the airstrip about 30 miles south of my house and did some runway drag runs... I was against myself but still it was pretty fun. I toolk the picture when I was about to run out of runway .... It seemed that the car had pleanty more gear to go and it woudl have still pulled... How fast will these things really go???

Sorry about the dust, I live down a gravel driveway...

if you have a GPS bring that along with you to get your exact speed, i only trust the speedo so much....and especially since you have different than stock tires on your car it could be off by a lot.

I wish i had an abandoned airstrip by my house!

You are braver than I doing 139 in that car, especially if it is still the stock suspension.

Not the stock suspension.. Full racing beat setup, Springs/anti-sways, also Megan racing strut tower bars...

I was running 215/45/17's when I ran it (my DD tires) so the speedo "should" be right.. But who really knows.. This vert is more stable as far as suspension goes then any other car I have owned. (14 rx-7's + 91 300zx ect...)

I had a 88 vert with tII engine, but a n/a tranny, and one night me and my brother took her 140 mph in 4th gear, with the top down on stock suspension; the car was really loose, just like my x-hoe friend.

I did 120 once... that's as fast as I ever want to go on a public highway

I'd say it would do 140 if I had enough space (top speed of the S4's was supposedly 130ish I think).

hit 140-145ish and ran out of road. pulled nicely and could have gone faster but never got the chance. only mods were exhaust and intake. no suspension mods besides front strut bar. handled pretty nicely and didnt feel loose at all. did it with one hand on the wheel. btw its a 90 gxl.

Ran 145 once going LA to Vegas 4 am on HWY15 from LA with my 86' Sport on stock springs, Tokiko illumina shocks, No catalytics.Took forever to get from 130 to 145 though.
Did any of you guys feel the car squat down a little lower above about 120mph? Or was that just my imagination?

Wow, going 140mph in a convertible. Anyone that stupid should get their license pulled.

I own two convertibles. It's a personal decision to take that risk, buddy. The convertible's may be heavier, but it's still not difficult to pick up the speed.

Myself, I've never made it past 130 in my s4 convertible, I was too nervous about cops. I knew, that if something happened - I'd probably end up dead. Pull my license, biatch! If you hadn't noticed, just about everything in this world that is "fun" coincides with levels of 'risk.'

I enjoy the idea of cheating death. One day he'll catch up to me, but for now, I'll enjoy the adrenaline.

the fastest I have gone was 128 with both windows down and lights up. It was completely solid and stable.

It could have gone faster, but I ran into traffic. I am hoping a morning run through the desert (no cars ever) with the aerodynamics cleaned up could get me at least over 140.

Car: 1987 gxl with newly rebuilt and streetported engine, port matched turbo intake manifold, k&n filter, stock exhaust (race pipe pulled out for all the cops), some suspension mods.

Pretty good! Best I ever indicated with my old street port NA was 130 on a country back road. Road got too bumpy at that speed.
