10AE weight question....

I recall reading a while back that the 10AEs were somewhat luxury versions of turbo2s or something like that... So do they have everything that the GXLs have? I also recall a post I made long ago about GXLs, someone replied to it saying they sold their GXL for a GTU, because the GXL was around 120lbs heavier....

How much heavier is the 10AE than the turbo2?

In some older topic, someone copy and pasted some review of the 10AE that was anti-10AE (kind of anti-turbo2 as well though....at least that's how I saw it).... It is what said that it was a turbo2 with luxury stuff in it.... It compared the weight of the 10AE to the s4 vert or s5 turbo2....

So... In the end... Simply... How much more does the 10AE weigh?

Thanks,
Me

PS: Yes, very badly worded post, I know.

Maybe you've added something that added a lot of weight? Because... Geez, heh, that's approaching the Mustangs in weight heh heh.

They're basically the same car, so they'll weigh basically the same.

Well first, all 87/88 TII's including the 10AE weigh 2845 lb, and thats completely stock dry (no fluids) weight. Add all the necessary fluids, a full tank of gas, and misc other stuff and I'd believe it. 86 Base weighs 2625 lb according to that site, once again dry weight. You've done weight reduction then I assume?

It might be heavier... but that's why they created bigger turbos. Make up for the 10AE being a little heftier.

They didnt, I think he meant thats why they MAKE BIGGER TURBOS. As in aftermarket.

I always thought it was around 2900-2950lbs or so. Seems just about right because of the lightest a S4 TII was 2850lbs (I'd assume with manual rack, no leather option, etc.)

Exactly. A lot of people have told me, "Why would you want an AE, they're heavier than any other turbo model FC ever made."

Blah blah blah... I didn't buy my car to race.

If I did want to race it, I could always throw on a bigger turbo to make up for the 'weight gain' of my AE. That's what I meant.

You forgot all the extras that the 10thAE came standard with...

Things like leather, headlight washers and pumps, extra plush carpet and interior Ultra Sonics for the alarm, and things like that.

All those extra things like badges, Headlight washer fluid, extra wiring, CD, Premium sound system add up to about 100 lbs heavier than the standard S4 Turbo. Because of this Road and Track Reported a wet 10th AE in their testing to be 3050 lb.

Now remember despite many people claims, the normal wet (full of gas/oil/fluids) S4 Turbo weighed right around 2960 (Road & Track and Motor Trend). The low 2800 number was for the original test of the S4 RX-7 GT, a model not even sold in the USA (and basicly a Sport with the Turbo Drive line, seats, and wheels).

And that base model weight of 2625 lb number was a fully wet (full of gas/oil/fluids) and road driven 86 GXL w/cloth interior that Motor Trend tested back in late '85. Intresting that the weight of a fully loaded wet (full of gas/oil/fluids) GXL when tested by Performance Car was 2651lbs.

but all those options with the exception of the ultrasonic alarm and the headlight washer (in US cars) were also availible on regular 88 TII's.
