100+mph shutter

When im cruising down the interstate coming home from work im usually traveling at high speeds. when i an cruising at 80-95mph its smooth sailing but right when i hit 100+mph there is a shutter like my alignment is off or like the tires arent balanced right. i havent changed my bushings but they dont look bad at all. what could it be?

Had the same problem years back, and when I changed my tires and had the wheels balanced it went away. You pretty much answered your own question in terms of wheel balance and alignment those are probably gonna be the culprits.

Simple, don't do 100 on an interstate.

Yes, aside from the obivous "don't o 40mph over the speed limit" thing, you've got to keep in mind that these cars are approaching 20 years of age.

Meaning bearings (if not reently replaced), bushings and the like are all quite worn out by this time and generally speaking having "looser" components will make the vehicle unstabl at high speeds.

Culprits for your symptoms:

Tires (age and balance)
Bearings
Bushings ( less likely, but still probably very aged and may be contributing)

Come on people. Sometimes you guys suck... Don't go over the speed limit.....Don't race on the road.... Weak. Now please post away at your reasoning as to why it isn't safe to do so on public roads, as I know you will. I will go over the speed limit if it is safe for me to get away with it, I drive a sports car and I like to drive it fast. But yeah it is probably tire balancing or alignment.

"if it is safe for me to get away with it"....even though you get away with it - its not safe. Its stupid. I don't care if you drive a Ferrari Enzo - 40mph over the speedlimit is:
a) Illegal
b) In no way, shap, or form "safe if you get away with it"
c) THE reason why young males take it in the *** on insurance.

Next time im down in Santa Cruz, just send me an itinerary of your daily commute so I can stay the hell out of your way.

No real solution just commenting but my 91' n/a pulls nicely past 100 and pulls up to about 120 after that it takes a while to keep getting up there.
BTW, in the Atlanta area of Georgia it is not uncommon for the flow of traffic to get up around 90 mph(More commonly around 80-85). With packs that travel at about 100 together. They are actually considering raising the limit from 70 because people get slammed with huge tickets for going with the flow. A group of people drove the speed limit here in a line a few months ago not letting anyone pass, and in the video there are people clipping the cars and bumping into them. I'm not condoning the activity just giving my .02.

The safest speed to travel is at the same speed as traffic around you. 100mph probably isn't it, but if it is let him do it.

If it is 2 am and no one is around then do whatever you want you are only risking yourself at that point.

i get off work at 4-4:30 am and there is no traffic on the interstate not even the police. but anyways.

i just got my other wheels balanced and there is low tread on them, with these titires on right now they shutter at 40+mph and the guy at discount said if the tires are balanced (which they just did today) then its because of the lack of tread and un even tire wear. so i am going to take it to my mechanic tomarrow and let him see what he thinks it is.

So going 60 is safe? I was not saying I flog it daily to over 100mph, but I do on occasion when it is "safe" whatever that means, to do so. There are a lot of stupid people on the road and I don't think of myself as one of them. Let me know if you come down to S.C. and we will race in a 30 zone.... Just kidding.
