***Power Loss/SEARCHED***
so today i was driving and this happened to me,
I'm working on buying a '90 N/A, but there are a few quarks ..
One of which, I can't figure out ..
After driving around for a while, I will experience a power loss .. anything above 3000-4000 RPM doesn't really give any power at all, and sometimes it won't go above 3000 RPM .. occasionally the check engine light comes back on .. but if I turn the car off and start it again the problem goes away .. even if I turn it off and back on in motion .. 3 seconds of 0 RPM solves it and it won't happen again for hours..
the only difference is i have an 87 n/a and it wont go above 2000 rpms. and when its in not in gear and im flooring it itll hold a steady feather and wont go above 2000.
any one know where i can get my ecu checked at? im in san diego
the font in red is what i found when i searched

If the CEL comes on you should be able to pull the code and that can help lead you to the problem. Secondary injectors kick in at about 4K so it sounds like there might be a problem there.

Sounds an awful lot like a fuel problem... Chuck is right the injectorys DO kick in AROUND 4.. but even if they were badly mistimed they wouldn't kick in at 2......have your comp checked, pull the code, and CHECK YOUR FUEL FILTER.. thatll do it every time

He has an S4, there is no CEL. However, you can check for error codes.

SOOOOOOOo i made one of those little things, and it pulled up nothing. i have no immidate failuers. umm what should i look for in my fule filter, rust? and it started doing it agian to day after not doing it for about aweek. Could it be the weather? because although the temp gauge say in running normal, could it just be running hot, and yes my temp gauge works properly. and i notice its does this on hot *** days.

I had the same problem. At first I thought it was hesitation so I cleaned all the grounds and replaced the fuel filter. It helped, but the problem started to sound like the same one you experienced in the red font. I went to and exhaust shop and replaced my cat. After pulling the old cat I shook it around and it sounded like a golf ball inside a coffee can. So to answer your question, it is most likely due to a clogged cat. Either punch it out, get a new cat, or just cut it out and weld in a straight pipe.

Do you have a catalytic converter on right now? Will this setup replace the old cat? If so, this should solve your problem. If not, it will most likely make some kind of difference and we can asses the situation from there. Good luck, and I hope it fixes all your problems!

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
Power loss can be from all kinds of things. A clogged cat, a mis-adjusted TPS, dirty fuel system, Bad spark plug cables, mis-tuned timing/ignition.
These are all pretty basic that even the most simplest mechanic should have figured out.
