I have a habit of reporting anyone who's HIDs are shining directly into my eyes. Reason being is that they aren't aimed properly, likely not approved for on road use, and the colour spectrum of HID is flat out blinding compared to the typical halogen light.

I praised him for being "so JDM", but I don't think he heard me over the sound of his shitty truck .
That's something I've never understood about the diesel scene. Don't they know that billowing black smoke from the exhaust is just power being wasted? Now granted, it's usually because people will buy that relatively inexpensive tuning module and turn up the most aggressive tune without the supporting mods. So the ECU/PCM/Whatever hammers fuel into engine to keep EGTs from going through the roof...but the result is still the same: a crappy tune and wasted money/power. Try explaining that, though. Hell, most of the car world is the same way with the default thinking being that more fuel = more power. So you also see '70s muscle cars running around, way over carbureted, trailing black smoke on acceleration. I can only imagine that they are running in the high 10s for AFRs and likely throwing 50 - 75 HP out of the tail pipes.

weed whacker

Went to work after finishing my turbo swap with a 3" turboback exhaust. After getting into the car and starting it a coworker walks by at asks me "Did you make it sound like a weed whacker on purpose?" I'm sure I'll get more comments in the future.

i got a good friend who always tries to give me grief about my wankle engine. at poker last night he starts to go off about the reliability of rx7's. he owns a 69 fastback and dropped in a new 351w engine roughly the same time i put in my streetported n/a. i let him say his bit about reliability then i ask him

me: "how many miles have you put on your motor since doing the swap?"

him: "idk, maybe 3-4k. its been down a lot."

me: "i've got over 12k on my rotary and it has't even been a year yet."

him: "yeah but i had carb tuning issues. plus i had other problems, suspension and steering issues."

me: "carb issues huh? weird. i just sent my injectors out to be cleaned before my swap was ready, then i bolted/plugged everything together and it ran just fine. plus in the last year i've done shocks w/sleeve overs, ball joints, bearings, new diff mounts w/ pinion snubber, and a full poly bushing kit."

him: "yeah but you did all that work yourself, i had to take my car to a shop to do my work cuz I don't have the time." (granted he does work a lot and also serves in the guard)

me: "i did all the aforementioned work in a weekend dude, c'mon. how you gunna say my car is less reliable then a piston engine when i've driven mine 3-4 times more than you have in the last year?"

he still won't drop the lolapexseals attitude, but it's whatever. the only thing his car has on mine is straightline speed, and thats nothing my turbo swap i plan for next summer won't fix.

^ people calling it a freaking Wankel! stop it! lol
Not directly towards you , just others in general referring to it as a wankel.

The japanese people don't even refer to it as a wankel.. Mazda doesnt call it a wankel.. It's just a bad name that stuck with the motors, like calling every video game system a Nintendo.

Maybe because it is a Wankel engine?? That's the guys name that invented it.... Diesels still go by the name of the guy that invented it, so why would it be any different lol?

I find its mostly older guys that call rotaries Wankel engines.

well there's more than one type of rotary engine. Wankel is a particular type of rotary engine.

Wow, this is one funny *** thread!

Well I will contribute my favorites that I get:

1) From the time i bought it and had it in my shop class trying to get it running, I had mostly the "hey nice car, tell me about it" reactions and a few of the "what a joke, it's just a japanese rice bucket." Then towards the end of the school year (very long school year with this thing) my shop class mostly referred to it as the airplane hahaha.

2) The usual "damn this thing is loud!"

3) "Your car sucks, its nothing more than a POS ricer. GET AN AMERICAN CAR!" This one is always my favorite because of the sheer lack of attention to how my car looks or sounds. This is the urbandictionary.com definition of ricer, and here is why I love when people call me a ricer: All the work I have done to this car has been to improve the way it drives and performs. Hell, I even got a new wheel just because my stock one was rubbish. I have NO body kit, NO new wheels, NO fancy-pantsy chrome tail lights (in fact, I just repainted the plastic of the S4 lights to a satin-black bc the age was beginning to really show), my interior is STOCK (on the exception of being stripped and a short shifter with a weighted **** my friend made me in machine shop that I designed on a 3D CAD program), my 'fart can' is a Corksport PowerSeries 80mm cat back that bolts to the 'stock' cat (saving up for a full RacingBeat true dual ), my 'ricer upgrades' are mostly OEM replacement items that just go bad over time, and my 'ricer' decals are a SaveTheRing.org sticker and a F*CK BOOST, NA IS BETTER (obviously not, but i cannot afford a TurboII yet )sticker on my gauge cluster.

Put short, I really think people are beginning to lose the true meaning of the word ricer and just say anything that is sans-American are just rice rockets. Once people actually have a ride in my car, they realize that its a sports car, and not a shitty FWD, auto tranny, econo-bucket that i'm trying to make fast. Hell, even my buddy (who owned an Evo at the time and hates rotaries) drove my car when the clutch was slipping and said he now completely understands the point of the car. Just goes to show the ignorance of people these days... Just wait till I pull up in the lot and all the poor little freshman, sophomores, and juniors see what this senior is beating around. Just need a fresh coat of factory-matched red paint, some good coilovers, 17x9.5 RPF1's on General rubber, and itll look fly.

That's because Wankel engines aren't actually rotary engines. Rotary engines have rotating cylinders.

According to the Collins English dictionary, a Wankel engine is a rotary engine:

rotary engine
— n
1. an internal-combustion engine having radial cylinders that rotate about a fixed crankshaft
2. an engine, such as a turbine or wankel engine, in which power is transmitted directly to rotating components

It is specifically named in the definition.

To avoid confusion, this is why in a technical discussion our rotary should be referred to as a "Wankel rotary" and a rotary piston engine should be a "radial rotary".

Japanese people who created the dam engine in your car refer to it as a rotary, the guys who made your car call it a rotary.. The people outside of Mazda call it a wankel.

I could care less what so and so dictionary says about it.. Its on the people who created it to call it a wankel. Sure Felix Wankel made the first one he invented it.

http://www.mazda.com/mazdaspirit/rot...out/index.html
Mazda adopted the wankel motor, but they do not call their product a wankel motor. Show me Mazda calling the 13b in all your cars a wankel.

I shall call every home video game console a Magnavox Odyssey because they where first to invent them.

2. My cousins girlfriend thinks my fc vert is a s13 vert (3 years and goin :d)
3. On freeway goin home from work cop pulls me over and "says do u know y i pulled u over, i said cause im rotary, hes like what, i said never mind, he says pop ur hood please, i pop my hood, he looks at my turbo and intercooler set up and asks, what size engine is this told him v8 from 69 camaro with turbo set up, i get a ticket for exhaust being loud, and modified emissions, (turbo, and installing an older engine into a newer car) got reffed :/ (i was rotary all along )s tate ref speechless, facial expressions priceless hahahahaha, got away with everything.
