Steering wheels
#76
Just picked up an '87, looking to get a Nardi classic. Question is, is it as simple as removing the stock wheel then slapping on the Nardi, or is there a hub or something I need to also buy to make it work?

I put an FD wheel in my AutoVert, didn't remove anything, everything lines up, connectors were exact match, center splines were exact match, and the mounting holes for the clock spring ("the turn signal cancel") were at 6 and 12 o'clock which is exactly what the FC is. An absolute plug and play.
I just saw this thread, so I'll make a contribution later this week. There is a lot to be said about the merits of keeping the stock steering wheel. I'm not one for those merits.
In summary:
Small Momo steering wheel into my GSL-SE with old school Mazda emblem horn button. Standard Momo mounting hardware.
Wood Steering Wheel from an RX5 (Cosmo) into my S4 Turbo Vert. (Also the matching wood handbrake handle) This required cutting a piece off my stock wheel and retrofit to get things to line up right.
Standard FD steering wheel into my S5 AutoVert. Absolute plug and play as mentioned.
Mazdaspeed (by Nardi) steering wheel (out of a Miata) into my S5 TurboVert. Had to swap horn and airbag connectors from my stock wheel and drill clock spring mounting holes at 6 and 12 o'clock as the Miata clockspring holes are at 3 and 9 o'clock. Just a scosh smaller diameter than stock, so a scosh more leg room.

I have an ebay wheel that came with my car when I bought that's surprisingly strong (compared to that fake *** nardi in the video) but it definitely needs to go because it just looks really cheap as hell. Gunna get a montecarlo as soon as I don't need anything else to get my car running.
