TN ?Show or Go?

Well it's a question that has been in the back of my mind for some time now. I have researched turboing my car (thanks to the Rx7 club). My looks on things is it would be better off gettng the 13bt and tranny than turboing my N/A. Thats just my look on things. I'm leaning toward going for show and maybe later on going for go and what I mean by go is maybe 300hp. So the question is what do you prefer?

these cars look mean when you build it for show.. but i feel that these are purpose built cars that wanna drive and perform.. either way the cars have classic lines and look good.. i vote go for goooo

You're gonna laugh when you dump 10k into your stupid body kit, oversized wheels, and annoying *** sound system and get run down by a 100hp Miata on a twisty road or a newer minivan on a highway...hahaha.

Sell your car to someone that wants to use it, buy a newer car and enjoy the looks you get. Or upgrade your suspension, wheels, tires and brakes, read a book about road racing and setting up suspensions/alignments and get tons of seat time at autocross events, track days, twisty roads, empty parking lots, and warehouse truck loading areas. Upgrade to the TII trans and rear end when you get the time and money, enjoy the shorter gearing and later finally drop the rebuilt 13BT later and enjoy boost and straightaways. This way you'll be ready to use that power by the time you get it.

Take a look at the thread titling something like "One Ugly FC" Or whatever. That guy has got one of the best looking FC's on these boards because that bitch is BUILT. It's obvious that he has spent time and money on that car and that he CARES about it, which is the biggest thing. It's really easy for some rich kid ricer to spend a lot of money on a car that looks good, but it's about gettin your own hands dirty that just satisfies you to the core and in the end makes it all worth it.

Cliffs Notes: Function over form.

just get your car in good condition, exterior-wise. like no broken side moldings, no cracked lenses, etc.
fix the paint, if needed, and give it a good wax. it'll already look killer, turbo or n/a. just use your cash
to get it working good. and fast, of course.

Your budget is really going to effect what you are going for. You're going to spend a lot doing either route. You also have to factor in things like is this your daily driver, what is your ultimate goal, etc...I've done both show car and a go car. Neither was cheap and neither was easy. However I do have to say this, as much as I enjoy going fast and tracking and such, unless you really know how to rebuild the engines and do stuff yourself; I suggest show. The chances of things breaking are less since you wouldn't be racing it every weekend. Just my .02 but hopefully it'll help you in your decision.

^true that things won't break as easily if it were a track car, but also going with the "show" route,
you will be stuck with a 17+ year old car so things WILL break. rebuilding the engine and upgrades
will keep it running and keep it healthy.

go, go, gadget!

listen to KhanArtist. He speaks the truth. Just don't get caught racing/being in restricted areas and get in much seat time. Then work on fast.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with working on go fast and pretty at the same time, but if you're spending so much money on show that you can't make it go fast or run right at the same time, that means you are going to far towards show and are probably building an abomination of an RX7. Stock Body FTW!!

Thanks see thats kinda what I was thinking. I don't wanna really do a engine swap only done one. So I was thinking maybe go show then take it to a place in Memphis tn called redline(http://redlineunlimited.com/index.htm) and have them put me a 13bt in it.

go before show mate, nothing more funny than seeing a car done up looking show and doesnt have the performance to go with it.

I would get the cars performance up first, as mentioned it sucks to have a car in show quality condition and then not have the ***** to match. Although I did buy my 7 with a few body mods the first thing I did was a full S5 drive train swap.

stock is the best looking, so in other words if your car is stock then you've already won a bunch of shows. Now to work on the engine.
